A successful company? It is only because they don't pay drivers correctly for all of the time they must wait for loads. (This is not just for JBHunt, they all do it).

You can call it what you want. It still appears to a truck driver to be a bait and switch. The image of JBHunt has declined to this level. Ten years ago they used to be a great company. Now they are like a puppy mill.
Hell, 10 years ago, they were griped about even more. Again, Im not a JB hunt cheerleader. If I liked JB hunt I would still be working there. But I see no need just to make up things about them. If someone asks me a question about them or I see a post about them, I will post exactly how it really is, bad or good.

Bait me. Switch me.

I've said it before here, and I'll say it again in this thread. Some truck drivers, especially those who are green, assume those in the industry are 'good hearted' and will bend over backwards for a driver. Those of us who've graduated from Hard Knocks U know better. No one should expect a company to 'save' a job for him, especially if the company is a trucking outfit. The industry is just too cut throat and it really has no room for good intentions. One who does expect 'kindness' is setting himself up for major disappointment. Ditto for those who go to orientations with skeletons in their closets. Those guys are only asking for a colossal let-down.

When you make any move in the trucking industry, you have to make sure you go in armed with ALL the information you can get your hands on. Ask the hard questions before making the big moves and you might save yourself grief later. A recruiter will omit information to suck you in, you bet. This is because 9 out of 10 drivers in the past have accepted the lie of omission as though that is normal behavior.

You MUST accept the fact that some people in the industry are liars and practice lying daily. They aren't honest, good-natured people like little ol' you. What will keep you up at nights for a week won't even faze some of those you'll meet in trucking. These jokers will lie to your face and sleep soundly afterwards.

There should be a major in college called "Lying Science". It'd be an offshoot of political science.

Sure, recruiters should be held accountable for lying, but those who get sucked in by the lies should buck up and accept at least some responsibility for the lying that goes on. If there were no suckers, there would be no liars. Liars practice what has worked in the past. If you don't want to be a victim, go in assuming a recruiter will leave out critical information. This is information you will have to dig for. If you assume a recruiter is a 'good guy', you may be blinded and not ask the tough questions. Be a pit bull. Don't be a Lassie.

I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight

And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.

Thanks for all the consideration, I believe I will just go back under my rock for awhile. I am just a little bit tired of going back ten years of work history to get screwed once again by a perspective job. I am not sorry for being bitter, I've just heard enough crap to fill my hat. Thank you very much.

No problem

No problem, Cat. I know I said you're making the best move by not continuing to pursue a trucking job, but I think you're giving up too soon. I know there are some good companies out there. It sounds like you've been distracted by all the companies that make finding a job 'easy' through slick ads and even pestering phone calls. You want no part of these outfits.

Dig around some and you'll find that diamond. Don't give up yet, unless you really WANT to go back to building houses and such.

I think you hit the nail on the head. A good trucking company will find the balance between taking care of their customers and drivers.

Unfortunately, these companies seem to be few and far between.

Hey.

DriverSolutions: 6 years.....You didn't happen to leave last october did you? Then I have a good Idea who you are.

Unfortunately he's right. When I was there, I couldn't count the amount of frustration I had when I'd schedule a guy/gal for locals and then have someone walk in off the street and take it...The System of hiring there is flawed. You take about 5 Applicants for 1 opening in case the others drop off for whatever reason, that's their reasoning....Hell, I'd even seen an opening out of NJ one time, Local gig only served NYC and the Jersey Burbs, 2 Openings, 45 Applications...

I left Hunt due to the fact that I received a call from a Railroad to become an Engineer...as that had been my Childhood dream. Plus even the nice little office Benefits couldn't top Union Benefits and even the pay's good, Not to mention that I could see the writing on the wall that people were gonna get Laid off. Better than wondering if your driver gets hired so you can get commission. And ever since, I have not wanted to return to that office complex off 540, not even once.
