USXpress don't waste your time

After training for 4 weeks. Didn't get the route i was promised in the first place. Was sent out OTR. Sent out with no chains thru 8" of snow. Was left sitting approx 24hrs. (Don't get paid for that.) Given loads that were already late when it was given to us. Then was spoken to with a smart a___ attitude when it was their fault to begin with. When we were rolling time to get to next stop was so tight no time for shower or any personal stops. Family emergency at home. (During orientation was told if any family emergency at home USX would get us home. Told to approx 70 students.) Well in reality. When i needed to go home, i was told i had to rent a car or plane. Reminded them of their speech in orientation, but was told they don't help you to get home. It was our responsibility. There were so many untruths told in such a short amount of time i am sick of this company. I am new to trucking, but if this is how the trucking industry is run i don't want any part of USX. This is a warning to everyone that is looking at this company. Get everything in writing that they promise you in orientation. Oh yea one other thing. When they give you directions to somewhere/anywhere, don't trust their directions. Their free form directions can and are wrong and the DriverTech system they have can be wrong. IF you get on a non designated truck route you the driver gets fined not USX. I got lucky and never got caught. Found out later i was on a non truck route. Good luck .

Good luck to you

Good luck to you, Distance. Sounds like you may need it. USX needs to be put on some sort of alert board, kind of like the Amber alert, to let drivers know what's up there. Of late, the word on the street is guys need to stay far away from that company. Your post isn't the only one that screams that. Far from it.

If you're planning on staying for awhile distance write your directions down on your notepads and keep them, that's what I finally ended up doing. Once you figure out how to read the gibberish on the free form you'll be in good shape as you'll be able to decipher the #### from the information. Trust me you will use them again and again as you will return to the same shippers over and over. Oh one other tip if you need chains then you shouldn't be moving. Tell them that and refuse to move the load, there's no load worth your life especially with the crappy traction control systems on their trucks. Plus where are you expected to chain up at, along the interstate on the white line because that's when you'll need the chains. Hell, they don't even teach you how to chain up so how are you supposed to know how to do it. I mean chains aren't hard to rig up but say for instance you get some kid from the inner city who's never seen or used a set of chains how's he or she supposed to know what to do with them?

I read on here once that the intent of chains is to get you out of bad weather, not into it. Sounds like good advice to me.

No kidding

No kidding, Mack. It's a good thing Wyoming has those barriers that go down to block I-80, or some outfits would force their drivers to drive that road no matter how bad the weather.

Dedicated route

Be glad you did'nt get the dedicated route. a couple months ago they (USXpress)had dedicated drivers sign a new contract earning UP TO .36cpm. They told my husband verbally because of his expereince they would pay .36cpm.ended up being.33cpm. He stayed with the route becuse it was still steady and good miles. Then come to find out he gets regular otr pay if he's out of route. Well the problem is you only get the higher pay if your off route more than 7 days or 9 days we never got a straight answer. So they would keep him otr and than give him one of his dedicated runs at least once a week so they can keep him at .33cpm. Because of off route runs miles dropped from about 2800 a week to about 2000 a week. He is now back otr.

Thumbs down The .new Swift'

USX has arrived! They have become the 'new Swift!' Complete with lies and cheap freight. After getting your 1 yr experience, stay away from big National carriers!! Look for a smaller outfit---however, since beginning of the year, heard that 3000 trucking co.s have gone out of business...

By the way, All recruiters lie...not just in the trucking industry, but military too!

When I started working for USX back in 98 they had twin brothers who weighed around 350lbs each. They kept breaking the seats in the truck so they finally got rid of them. They also had a shemale with a little toy poodle who used to walk around the terminal in OKC carrying the poodle in his/her arms wearing white shorts and a pink blouse. What a sight that must of been at shippers and receivers.

I have been warning people for years about USX. They went bad when they went to the rails to run their loads instead of drivers.

OP, I have told people on these boards many times that to make a good living as a solo at USX you have to run when you need to and not when the log book says you can drive. When you do multiple stops you are only required to be at the first one on time, the rest depend on when they customer unloads you. Direction by the company should never be trust 100%. Call the customer if you have doubts, Ask other drivers if they have been their before and use your road atlas to stay on truck routes. You can also use your CB when you get close to your destination and find out from locals how to get to some shippers and receivers.

When I worked at USX they flew me home for Christmas because they had a guaranteed home on that day policy. I was also flown home from Chicago when my stepson died in a motorcycle accident while I was driving on I-44. I guess that has all changed now also, what a shame.

Sounds like US Express is still the same as when my wife and I life 4years ago. We went to them twice. You would think that they would appreciate a good team but in the end they just ##### on us. The corporate culture at US Express is deplorable. You are immediately just a number. Your truck is more important than you are and that is so sad. I blame truckers for this because you will put up with so much. We are worth so much more.
