Sneaky Company!!!

Guess what? Company decided to turn trucks down (now 63mph - slower than JB or Swift!), but not tell the drivers! They do it when you go in for service or repair in one of their terminals! Wouldn't have even known about it until I got headed down highway! Just happened to go in shop (was getting service done) when they had computer hooked to truck and asked what was going on! Shop guys said they were to turn down every truck that comes in! Called Dm and they were told NOT to tell drivers! My Dm was upset they couldn't tell us! Guess company figured if all drivers got a general message about it, a bunch might have quit right then! Now what kind of chickensh-t bull is that!!! Backstabbing, behind the back - bend over and take it! Well I'm telling every driver I see to forewarn them! Gave them my notice - I'm not one of the sheep that will sit back and not do anything and follow the flock!!! It's not that they're turning trucks down. It's the way they're doing it behind drivers backs!!! That's just wrong in my opinion!!! Can't be upfront and honest with the drivers!!!

Another member posted today that Swift is turning theirs back down to 62. Calm down, you aren't the only one in this boat.

I drove 58 today on my own free will in protest of the prices.

I don't really think it's that big a deal. With prices as they are, I don't blame the companies for doing whatever they can to make every gallon of fuel go further.

Almost all trucks around here are governed - at 105 km/hr. The speed limit is usually 110 km/hr so they're set UNDER the speed limit. Oh, well. Such is life. Not worth quitting over IMHO.

I often drive 105 just because it's easier and you often get the road to yourself

HEY! When they governed our trucks, they did not tell us either.

They just set them.

65 for us.

It's the point of the subject you're missing! It's not that they're doing it. It's the way they're doing it - NOT telling drivers - sneaky and underhanded dealings. I know fuel prices are high and cost for everything is up. But to NOT have the respect to tell drivers up front, is just another way of saying "You don't matter, you're just a driver". We are supposed to respect the company for who they are and treat the other employees (DM's, safety, shop personnel, etc..) with respect. Why not us drivers? As long as drivers keep letting companies treat them like crap and disrespecting us, nothing in trucking is going to change. Gotta go.

Not disagreeing with you there. Its really sad that they couldn't at least put a memo out on the qualcom. Companies and O/O's are trying everything they can to save fuel.

Well... I ran 65 most of the day. 70 some. I'm not telling what I ran for about 45 minutes or so swapping front door & back door with a few O/O's. Lets just say it should have been midnight with a load of chickens on going across the mojave.

You would think that they would have to tell you that they are lowering the amount of wage you can earn per hour.

I have to agree with you. I know that fuel is at an all time high. I own a 2004 Ford F-350 4X4 that runs on diesel. To me, it is a matter of respect that needs to be communicated with the drivers as to why the speed change. Common courtesy.

You are exactly right in that you, as a driver, do not matter. These big compaies are afraid if they tell the truth, drivers will leave in droves. They are probably correct. When a driver has to slow down per the company policy, their take home pay will suffer. While I do not condone speeding or reckless driving, slowing a truck on main U.S. highways pose another problem unto itself. Do I need to explain that one?

Welcome to being a "right to work" employee. These companies will do as they wish with no regard to drivers. The reason is, they are not forced to by some type of contract. Because I am represented and paid by the hour, I don't care how low they turn our trucks down. I do however find it amazing that these companies bid so low for a freight account, they feel the driver has to suffer for their mistakes.

The majority of drivers are paid by the mile. If thier mileage drops, so does their income. How are they supposed to pay for benefits? We all know that they are required to help pay for retirement and healthcare. What about eating, showers and toiletries? They add up on the road. If they can't make ends meet now, how can they save for their future?

In my opinion, nothing is going to change. Why should it? These big companies continually put new drivers thru the paces and make good money off of them.

They say slow down and we will make money together. I say B.S. Pay your drivers for the work they do and be upfront and honest. If the company, for whatever reason, cannot do that, you are at the wrong company.
