We just got back from my uncles house and found the report of injury. It stated that there were 70 MPH winds and the door came back and hit him and he then slammed into a concrete wall. Life is really tough right now. He stayed in Denver CO for 3 weeks under Dr. supervision and was released last week. He had to buy his own bus ticket home, at least that is what is records show.

This is just my opinion. I think the bus ride is something that all of the big carriers would have done. Not just Werner. It doesn't make it "right" but that's the way most or all of the big carriers do things. Smaller, Mom and Pop would have made sure that he went home safely and in comfort.
I drove a driver from central Ohio to Stoneville NC who had been in the hospital and couldn't drive his truck. I worked for a company who had an interest in their drivers. They only had a few hundred not thousands.

YES IT is true an I do know this.. I drove and trainned for werner for almost 7 years.. see they let the new students go once they are done on a trainer truck. as along as they are trained they tell the student ok we dont have enough trucks check back in 30 days.. well once that 30 days is over an gone those new students won't have a job.. Its all about the Money an yes I do know all companies are about money but the company i drive for now is a good company no probs at all with Con-way.

    I started with Werners.
A good place to start, but they were/are very disorganized!
Pretrps out of date sent hr's after PU appt!

Your told you get your choice of trks when you sign on and it's true. You get a choice between junk A or junk B.

I choose Junk A! 379, took two days to get it out of the shop.
    I miss that trk.

I guess it's smart on their part not trusting rookies with newer equipment but many a rookie I watched get sent home after being told they had no trks for em at the moment!
    ...after they'd done their 380hr's training/co-driving!

I used think their electronic logs was the only way to go but after doing paper logs and now E-logs Werner's log system is CRAP!

One of the most frustrating things was having no control over my own logs, every correction had to go through Werners "LOG DEPARTMENT" this could take up wards of an 1 1/2 hr's sometime more.

Case in point. Doing a 10hr brk had to be 10 1/4, No problem right!,...exept my Qcom would go into sleep mod after 8hr's
So after my 10 brk the only way to check messages was to turn the key on,...No problem. Until you got 15 miles down the road and the red light comes on because your in violation of your 14hr rule!!!

Seems turning the key on in some cases (not all) would log you on line 4! and since on there system there's no way to see what line your on unless you Mac 49 and "ASK THE LOGS DEPARTMENT" you wont know you've logged on line 4 at 10:14 min!
    LOL!!!

Getting home was always an adventure to. Seems my DM would see just how many stps he could make me do between Ga and Id.

8 days late for home time he finally get me into the Henderson terminal were I think my next trp should take me home. LMAO! SUCKER!
My next trp is back to Atl Ga!!!

My next message to him was "ether take me of your board or FIRE me"!

LOL Again!!!! They gave me a new truck, 387 with an APU!!
Than found me a trp home.

18 months later I gave notice.
Point being I don't like Werners but I do appreciate the opportunity they gave me.

If your just starting out and need wheel time than go with it till you cant stand it anymore. Than start shopping around for something better.

I wonder if all of the drivers for Werner decided to quit all at once, then how ####y would those office losers be? I'm pretty sure that attitudes would change quick. Employer insurance can only cover payroll for so long...

Why is everyone forgetting that without qualified drivers to actually do the work of picking up freight and delivering on-time, that no one would get paid?

Honestly, i feel the pain. I've had to handle those doors in high winds many times...thats part of why im going to a tank outfit now..

Yeah, most companies do the bus ride.

That didnt happen to me but i sure hear a lot of those stories. I dont get it. People quit every day and theres thousands of trucks just sitting there in all the yards..?

It wouldnt matter. im quitting today and i guarantee you someone will be in my truck tomorrow. However, i'm having it red tagged when i turn it in..ehehehehehe... :D

I was thinking and have a better comment for this.

Most of the people who work for werner are idiots and dont realize theyre getting screwed. Not that everyone of them is, but like...

A while back a guy pulled into our channahon yard, said he didnt have a cell phone signal couldnt figure out how to get to a customer, wanted to know if he could use the guardshack phone. Not much of a problem with that, except....he wouldnt tell me where he was going at first. Turns out that it's Kimberly Clark on Prologis Parkway, in romeoville/bolingbrook. He's all saying he made a turn his gps told him to and he wasnt on a truck route...it took me a few minutes until i realized what he did (needed to veer left and kept straight). I told him what to do and he insisted the route i told him was not a truckroute. I go to this place all the time.

I said something about directions. "Oh, i just use my gps.". Now, ill tell you what, werner gives directions for this particular customer that are PERFECTLY CLEAR AND OBVIOUS...well, except for the veering left bit. But he didnt read them. He says his gps is good enough for him.

In hindsight i wish i woulda offered to drive the truck up there for him for $20....$20 never hurt anyone...haha

He later came back and claimed the place was closed. I didn't verify it, but given the fact they wouldnt answer the phone when he called, its possible..but i thought the place was open 24/7....

Then he started complaining about his job. Well, thats normal, theres a lot to complain about when you work for werner. He told me that he has been on the road for 3 months, is regional, is supposed to be home every weekend, and has never been there. I told him...did you send the macro 38? "No, im supposed to go home every weekend!".....anyone who has ever worked for werner knows that you have to tell them when you want home....especially since most regional drivers go home every 2 weeks, not every 1 week...

another guy i talked to at channahon, was telling me about how great his big radio was, and talking about getting out 50 miles. I told him i had a big radio in my 4 wheeler and it had a 200 watt linear (actual watts, not the claimed watts), and i get out 70 miles..he told me, "theres no way with 200 watts to get out that far!!!!". I asked him what he had...he told me it was a cobra 29 peaked and tuned.

Um, yeah, so hes getting out 50 miles with a stock radio, and he thinks i should get out the same distance with 200 watts? The hell?

This same guy also was telling me about how he was trying to get a different truck because his tried to kill him. He claims he almost fell out because he went over a bump near the yard and the door opened..on the highway. It's been *FIXED*, and beyond that...why wasnt he wearing a seatbelt? Also, this truck was absolutely awesome. Possibly the best company truck on the fleet. It had been leased out and converted back to company. FL classic, dark blue, 13 speed transmission, chicken lights on chrome strips, very clean looking....

Another driver had heard about this and came in to talk to the guy...walks in and says "Are you the driver of the blue truck?"

im like "HELLLLOOOOOOO THIS IS WERNER! THEYRE ALL BLUE!!!!!!!!!" he rolled his eyes at me.

    seriously, what the hell?
