Wow i can't believe all the stuff i am reading about werner. I remember back in the days it was a great company. I worked for werner from 1996-1999 before i leave the road got a local job delivering gasoline and pursuing other interest.I was in the flatbed division when i was with werner, and i work with a bunch of great people drivers and dispatch. The drivers were well taken care of especially the million milers they had the newest truck seem to get the best loads basicly you aspire to be one of them. Well as far equipment i couldn't complain i had like 3 new truck(379 Pete) within the short period i was there my favorite been 99 pete the the one with the 500hp kitty cat and the lower rider suspension the power windows and mirror and the 120 gallon tank great fuel milage and more range iusually fuel it about every 1000 miles in the spring/summer times still had more than 1/4 tank of fuel.In the winter time i always fuel when i was atleast 1/2 tank i wanted to have fuel in case i was stranded the higway got close down etc etc which normally happen. My time with werner was great i had a great time working with them. I live in PA and never had a problem getting home.I still have my safe driving awards and ontime awards with me still frame and all.I always felt like i was a spoiled driver because dispatch took care of me but i did work my ### off deliver my my load ahead of time etc. I remember guys be saying i am not getting any miles i would be like i waiting for midnight so i could get driving time. I felt like i was also a regional drivers also basicly after a while the only states i ran once i left home were Nebraska Kansas Texas New Mexico Olkahoma Iowa and Missouri. Most time i even went home with the same trailor i leave with. I was never too fond of swapping loads i never did much anyway i just hated losing a decent trailer and new tarps.Back then if you had a spread axle flatbed you did everything to keep it,even it was an old wilson trailer.I remember it was a friday evening in El Paso TX i had pick up a load of lumber that was going to a factory in Wyoming i was suppose to reload out the factory in Wyoming and go to NC.Anywa when i load in El Paso and went to the truck stop to scale the load i was overweight. I went back to the shipper they were closed. So i called dispatch let them know anyway i had to sit with the load until Monday.I got pay $150 per day i was babysitting the load was an hotel i turned the hotel i down. I was more than happy sleeping in the truck beside i was in mexico for most of the weekend.I am sorry to hear you guys/girls are been treating this way. When i was there it was a great company to work for. I was hired on wit 6 month OTR experience went witha trainer for a like a few week to learn the system etc.I remember them taking care of their drivers. I remember dispatch would get their ### chew out if they mess with the drivers. I still remember the day i was in Idaho and the qualcom woke me up it was around 7am i was like what do they want on the weekend rarely did i get any messages on te weekend.Any way it was a baout guy who was with the company for 20 years had like two millions miles had an accident apparently some one was under his trailer.I Know i remember pretripping by truck good that morning looking under the trailer it really did freak me out.As for as equiment they had some nice equipment if they had got rid of those fontaine trailers the tandem axle one it would have been even better they were getting rid of them but not fast enough for me.Any i like the 99 pete i had the one with the 500HP Cat and the super ten transmission for some reason it would run around 70 not that i tell anyone that truck could could run especially the hills when it was loaded.I remeber coming up Mont eagle in TN with 49000 on the deck and only had to drop a gear same as coming up cabbage hill with 49500lbs of lumber and running in 9th most of the way up eventually i had to go to 8th for a while but i was impress by other two pete before wouldn't do that.Anyway i do drive once in a while delivering gasoline to gas station now thats an easy job.Anway i am an airplane mechanic work for a major airline but i still miss the road yeah taxing airplanes is fun too.You guys/girls keep up the great jobs you are doing and don't be discourage. We all got to make sacrifices at time i remember i was driving deliver gasoline (6pm-4:30 am sometimes i got done earlier) then have aviation school at 7:30 am i only work wed fri sat and sun so it was not bad i could leave school early if i wanted just had to make up the time some other day.Once again keep up the great jobs you guys/girls are doing i hope things turn around for the best. Ihope things get better at Werner i know it was a great company when i work for them and had some fond memories.
