I was in Haw River, NC on a 34 hour restart. I overheard a St Michael's driver on the phone begging someone on the other end for fuel. He was there all weekend...
Jesus and shiny trucks do not equal a good company.

I'll second that ! and I feel sorry for the guy that owns the place. WOW having to beg for fuel money, insurance woes, all north east WITHOUT an ez pass. I thought you got discount by using an EZ pass, I know cars do in most areas. Someone should shoot it and put it out of it's misery. sad sad sad indeed.

EZ Pass/ Begging for fuel
On the ez pass subject, yes, you do get a small discount for using ez pass for the tolls. I only know this because my husband had his own prepass because they don't supply those either. But we checked into the prepass plus thing that allows you to have money in your account to pay for tolls. They told us that they wouldn't reimburse the tolls if it was paid that way. Duh, why the hell not? Whether you pay for it via cash, credit card, or ezpass, you still get a receipt, and with ezpass--you even get an invoice! My husband was late several times becuase there was no money for not only fuel, but tolls as well. I just wonder what excuse they were giving the companies that these loads were late to as to why they were continuously having to reschedule appointments. It was like, if you think you might need fuel tomorrow, then you had better get as much as you can today, because there might not be any money for fuel or anything else tomorrow. My husband ran out of fuel 1/4 mile from a fuel stop on a bridge. Obviously you can't sit on a bridge and wait for money to magically appear in your company's efs account so your drivers can get fuel. But that service call and the 10 gallons that came with it to get that last 1/4 mile down the road, cost almost $800!!! That tickles me because they were only allowed to get $600 in fuel per day!
I really hope that the drivers that are currently there and the ones previously didn't come to the company with the hope that being around "good people" who pray would help them get any closer to God. My husband said that after listening to their prayer meetings, he felt more inspired and all this crap. I told him to make sure that he read his bible and prayed on his own because it just didn't seem right-- the whole situation, and not to bank on the fact that the owner may have seen a premonition and Jesus told him to keep his company open and that because he Jesus on his side that his company will not fail. That's using God and Jesus as a crutch. God will not let you use Him as people will let you use them. It will all come back on them, if that's what they are in fact doing. When my attorney called me in June to tell me that they had filed bankruptcy and if we were going to proceed with this workers comp thing, then we needed to do so quickly. The Jackson Sun reported the owner as "having a buyer" for his land in Houma, LA. Well, he had talked about having a buyer since November, 2007!!! If you decide to go to work for this company, please be careful. Don't get hurt like we did. 6 months after him leaving the company, and our finances still haven't recovered.

They went Chapter 11 earlier this year. ALWAYS beware of a company that feels the need to TELL you they are "Christian!"
Saint Michael Motor Express filed a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Tennessee on May 22, 2008. The company listed assets and liabilities in the range of $10 million to $50 million. It retained Henry C. Shelton of Adams and Reese LLP as its legal counsel. The main unsecured creditors included Comdata Network, Inc., Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, Flying J Insurance Services, H&P Leasing Inc., ... Jackson Medical Center, Liberty Mutual Holding Company, Inc., QUALCOMM Inc., Simmons Tire Company, Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development, and Transportation Alliance Bank.Last edited by WiseOne; 10.20.2008 at 08.14 PM. I agree. That is why I have a hatred of Covenant. NOT the drivers just the company. Keep your beliefs to yourself you freak.

I agree. Covenant even has an anti-abortion sticker on EVERY one of its trailers. WTF? Anyway, I worked for a guy who made it a point to tell me he and his company were Christian and to write down my hours that we worked under the honor system...EVERY single time he would rip you off and scratch off hours from you. Needless to say I wasn't there long and have always been wary every since...

The owners of a tire shop by my got all ubber Jesus a few years ago, they even have the preacher come in every morning for a bible study and prayer meeting, not sure if it is mandatory for there help, but they all attend..
I had to stop one morning to get a trailer tire when I was on the local gig and had to wait a half hour for the bible thumping to get over before they got to my tire.....I haven't been back there since.....
