In 1990 I heard the CRE horror stories and figured they won't b around long. In 1995 I heard the CRE horror stories and figured they won't last much longer. In 2000 I heard the CRE horror stories and wondered how do they stay in business. Nine years later and I wonder why in the world would any one who checked drive for that outfit. Gonna take a lot longer to put'em under than I thought.

You really want to know how they have been around so long.
I lived in Utah for 15 years, so i know how the 'good ole boy' network in that state works. Grew up in eastern Idaho, which is am 'arm' of northern utah.

They have stuck around when they are about to go under, because all the England's are of the mormon faith. Members watch out for each other.
Each time they are about to go under, they go to thier church and ask for a bail out. The church realizing, they can make some money, and get some frieght hauled for free, says sure how much do you need, and then hands them a check.

It is like this for any company in those two states, where the owners/ management are of the mormon faith. Used to work a soft drink franchiser, and when they were having trouble, they went to thier bishop and got $$ to make payroll. Same for a couple of other busisneses's

Secondly, look at how much per week they charge a lease op for thier truck payment, nothing else just the truck payment.
In 2003 when i went thru thier school, payments at that time were well over $600.00 per week.
that's $2,400 per month.
You can go around the corner from the slc yard, to the Frieghtliner dealer and get used one for a thousand less.

And thirdly, look at how much they are getting back form the feds for training new students. When i was in it, they were getting something like 2,000 per student, provided they completed the school.

It is very hard to believe that they even get drivers to go there anymore to work after all the lawsuits, and alL the negitive stuff that is said about them- "DRIVE LIFE"= NO LIFE OTHER THAN DRIVING THEIR TRUCK, AND GETTING HOME ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR...

That pretty much sums it up. What a horrible way to live. Stuck in a vehicle 24/7, week after week.

Instead of telling people they are "less than intelligent", why don't you shed some wisdom on us?
What is a good company to work for? Especially for someone just starting out and looking to get their CDL training paid for.

The sad thing about getting your "CDL Training" Paid for is that you almost would have to go to these big carriers ie, Swift, Werner,C.R. England, and U.S. Express- These type of trucking compines are call "CDL MILLS"- They reason being is because they get Grants from the goverment for each student they take in and train- Sad but true- Basically your just a number when you go there to work and they could care less if you stay or leave, because there is another "student" and grant money waiting for the trucking company when you leave.

They also make you stay a year as well other wise you owe them the money back, by the way that money is double other than just going to your local community college to get your CDL training- And the training is a whoe lot better at the community college- Just think of thoses big compines like boot camp- THey rush in and through so they can get you in the filed driving for them taking the "crappy loads" the other drivers know better than to take-

If I where you I would stay away from those compines-They will screw you in the end and you will never see home time- Just read their DAC reports on this forum-

They best thing to do, But im not sure how it works in you r home state, but here in Va you can go to the DMV get a CDL study guide and go take the learners permit test and if you pass you will have your lerners CDL- then check with some of your local trucking compines and see if they would hire you on as a student-That is what I did- I drove with a local trucking company OTR- I went out with a trainer and lerned how to do the driving with my lerners and then they let my trainer and I take the truck to the DMV to take my road test- I passed and got my CDL and started driving on my own about 4 wks after that- I was with them for two years- I never had to sign anything or pay back anything when I left-

I know alot of driver son here would sayI was lucky they did that for me, and of course thats almost 5 years ago, so times have changed but they only thing it cost me to get my CDL was the DMV fees, not $5,000 from som half rate scum bag trucking company like C.R. England-

I hope this helps, good luck to you-

I'm currently a phase 2 student at CRE. Maybe it was a mistake. Only time will tell. I was lucky that my Phase 1 trainer was an awesome guy and fun to be with. I was completely comfortable with him. He actually trained two of us at the same time. The trainer I have now...well he's okay some of the time. Mostly he gets me a little freaked out when I'm backing. Cause he'll rush me to hurry up then cursed and yelled at me for going to fast. But he does tell me I'm a kick-### driver. But it's hard to get completely comfortable with someone who yells at you though when you're already nervous.

We've ran our butts off since I got on the truck with him two weeks ago. Only reason I have any time right this moment is because I got sick and he got the load we had swapped so I could get some downtime to recuperate (like I said...he's mostly nice...he just has some real moments).

Others from my class have had worse experiences than me so I count myself lucky. My goal with CRE is to do nothing more than get some OTR experience then move on and in the meantime at least make enough to pay our basic bills. Very few companies are accepting anyone that doesn't have any experience anymore so I didn't have many choices. CRE is the ONLY one that answered my applications. I've heard good things about US Xpress so I'm looking to go there later (they weren't accepting any inexperienced drivers in my area at the time that I was applying).
