Panther Express ll... I drove about a month for them.. Was told they would get me home with no problem if I gave them a weeks notice.. I gave them 3 weeks notice.. I live in Oklahoma, they tried sending me to New York..They said I would get about 3,000 miles a week. I figured about 2500.. Would you believe it was closer to....1500 payed....... They do not pay deadhead, even if it is needed to get another load.. I ended up drivin about 2500, but did not get paid for the other 1000.. I informed them, that I was going home, and would not be returning... I never saw my last check.. They had so many deductions, that I ended up owing them... They did not get anything from me either....Would recommend digging ditches before driving for Panther Express II.

When you call to get information on your pay they send you to many different people with many different reasons why you aren't going to recieve a paycheck. I could write for days on all the lies they tell you but I have to get back out on the road with a real company this time..
Been there,
done that.
Got the T-shirt (with a picture of a BIG SCREW) to prove it.

Paw, you're behind the times. I remember being expected to volunteer lots of my time and labor way back when I started driving in the mid-90s. Volunteer waiting. Volunteer unloading. Volunteer layovers. Volunteer no-interest (companies were using me as their temporary finance companies interest-free). Volunteer map-miles driver (1/3 of driven miles went unpaid). Volunteer New York whipping boy (ONCE). Volunteer rig washer (ONCE). Volunteer recruiter bonus getter. Volunteer dispatcher bonus getter.

And that means one thing
It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.

Tip, I was just pointing out that they have now completely closed the loop. They want all the volunteer stuff you mentioned but now it appears they also want people to drive for free as a volunteer as well. Heck, that ought to really boost the corporate bottom line in these times of economic turmoil. Wouldn't you agree?

Agree

So you guys are actually longing for the good ol' days of Rand McNally? I remember when I drove for Swift, some of my northeast runs made Randy look very generous. On those runs, I often had a third of the miles lopped off. I'd drive two miles for pay and then drive one for free. I definitely was taking one for the team. I was a volunteer driver for sure.

At the risk of sounding idealistic and naive, how do these types of companies get by with lying to people to get them to work for them and then screwing them over? Aren't there laws against intentional fraudulent misrepresentation in hiring? I wish I could afford an attorney but after my husband working for PAM for six months I'm lucky I still have a roof over my head.

Unfortunately AngryLady, you have learned a hard lesson in the trucking industry.. And believe it or not, it could have been worse.. Look at the JEVIC drivers.. One day they had a good job, great pay, some of the best benefits in the industry.. And then on MONDAY of this week, they were out of a job.. Over 1200 drivers and office personell.. Jevic filed bankruptcy on them, with NO NOTICE..

They get by with promising one thing and doing another, because we, as drivers, are wanting to do better for our families.. So we go to the one that promises the most.. and consider ourselves lucky if we get half of promised.. Trucking companies are at the mercy of the customers.. with fuel pricing so high right now, companies are looking for alternative methods of moving product.. Even the truckin companies.. Look at the freight trains, you see countless number of Semi trailers riding the rail now. It is cheaper to mass ship the trailers across the country by rail then hire drivers to pull em..

Consider yourself lucky that you still have a roof over your head, and make sure yer hubby carefully picks a better company.. Try researching them online before pullin for them... Check them out with the better business bureau in their HOME TOWN.. Call the labor board in their home state, and find a truck stop, visit with drivers from that company, and other companies and get input from them.. All that and a lot of luck, may help him find a home drivin for a good company..

Best of luck with ya'lls future, and drive safe.. Watch out for the little guys...(4 wheelers)....
