| I worked for us xpress for 8 mo. my youngest son was on the road with me. Became seriously sick they sent me to NJ then wouldn't get me out. I had gave them the choice of a load or I will bring the truck back to Tunnel Hill. They had ran me over on hours at that, told me that the load needs to be there yesterday. I got the load there a day early but, still that wasn't good enough.. So, I called them the next day still no load. I bobailed back to Tunnel Hill, they got in touch with me when I got to Chatt. were you at headed toward TH, GA They told me that truck better not go to AL. it's not I replied going to TH,GA then I had family there to pick my son and myself up then took him straight to emergency room, my fleet manager called asked how my son was his sugar was sky high as well as his blood pressure...He said that doesn't sound good....Then came the unathuorized use..so be careful of your choice even though my son's health meant more |

You work for the company they do not work for you when you say that you gave them a choice to get a load for you or to bring the truck back to tunnell hill you do not get everything you want every minute of the day you may have to wait untill they find something for you. You say your son's health meant more. You decided to make your son wait for medical attention untill you turned the truck in. If your son was as sick as you say you should of taken him in the amblance or a cab. You were not under a dispatch to use that truck so you should of not taken it upon yourself to drive it with out a dispatch. No one makes you run over hours either you have the hours to run the load or you do not if you did not have the hours you should of told them so. I am not trying to pick a fight just pointing out the problems I see about the post. |

| So what's the yank? Do you expect them to drive you home from the process? How many people fly around the country to interview for jobs- they don't get reimbursed. It's part of the investment in yourself. Why not? Your return trip and any expense incurred on that trip are fully tax deductible. USX does not reimburse the expense because these clowns (USX) do not check out their recruits before they bus them in. They are all about quantity these days, not quality. Honestly- I read posts about people that are pissed because they can't get miles. Then you read another one about how someone is pissed because they work too much. I swear these companies can't win. Sure they can. They win every day because they only have to pay for part of your time on the job and don't have to be fair because the law exempts them from it. Your tag says trucking industry but you are certainly clueless about OTR trucking if you think the trucking outfits are getting the short end of the stick. These OTR outfits should be kissing my hiny for all the sacrifices and crap I put up over the years, with from them, and their customers when I did OTR. |

| No one makes you run over hours either you have the hours to run the load or you do not if you did not have the hours you should of told them so. If you are getting paid by the mile and the company controls when you will get those miles then they don't have to make you do anything. Any driver who stays in a truck long enough will figure out that not making operations job easier will put them in the poor house, or in your case on the curb. Your experience with May Trucking, though short, should of taught you that. |

| Intelligent guy named IN MY DREAMS will be singing a different tune if he stays in this business. Okay, you want facts? I also went to USXpress orientation, passed EVERYTHING, then was given a "note" to call Human Resources and was told to vacate. Stupid me, I got right on the phone with Werner, and they paid the bus ticket to get from the USXpress Terminal to the Werner Terminal. I say "stupid" because of what Werner does to people, as well. So WHY did USXpress fire me? It's still on my DAC report (which I have in front of me), for 1-day hire/fire; though of course I was never officially hired and never paid for the day. Well, according to a USXpress employee smoking a cigarette in the terminal yard, the company is run like the "Twilight Zone": "Nobody knows why they do anything around here." After I got to Werner and was on the road for them, I made several phone calls later on and finally got in touch with the USXpress Human Resources Director in Tennessee. I explained that nobody in Ohio EVER told me why I was fired, and boy did I go up and down the halls trying to find out! I was told it was CONFIDENTIAL! It wasn't easy to get hold of the boss in Tennessee, let me tell you! I pulled a few tricks. Do you know what happened? The story finally came out. That day at USXpress, I passed the Driving Test, according to the man who gave me the run-through. In fact, he had told me and the other Rookie I tested with: "Don't worry - you would have to hit something in order for me to fail you!" Actually, I drove perfectly, backing up the trailer in the space between two others, went out on the road with him taking turns, etc. But they had SO MANY ROOKIES in the terminal that week, back at his desk he decided to fail me anyway. He wrote eventually on his report that when I took over from the other rookie driver for the test, getting into the driver's seat and pulling out on the road from the side of a LONG, DESERTED on-ramp, my eyes went for a second to see how to move my seat forward. The previous driver was VERY OBESE and had moved the seat ALL THE WAY BACK away from the steering wheel. I put my eyes right back on the road and gave the seat a quick jerk. That was it. Technically, I hadn't even brought the truck out into the lane yet! This was at the very beginning of my 'test'. Again, the man told me at the end, YES, I HAD PASSED. And I did so with FLYING COLORS. The individual met me later at the coffee stand and never said a word, as I was telling him how much I looked forward to learning the business. Yes, he had a quota, I guess, and I was IT. Yes, I am a woman. Yes, I am also a lady. And, yes, there have been men all along my route in this business who take ONE look at me and pre-judge me that I don't have what it takes to belong. This is probably why gals put on the the leather, the rings, and the tattoos, and swear like sailors. You have to play the part. But as for me, I look like Doris Day. You see, if you don't fit the STEREOTYPE, whatever it is, you face prejudice. But, look around. The women BECOME the stereotype. Do you REALLY think they were anything like that before they got behind the wheel for these companies? Did they look like that in high school? IT'S A DISGUISE!!! IT'S A SCHTICK! Pretty sad, isn't it? They turn themselves into that, slowly but surely. ANYWAY - the Human Resources Director in Tennessee made a personal investigation of the whole thing, taking the trouble to talk personally to the man who had given me the driving test. He admitted just what had happened, to his credit. And so the Director at USXpress called me back, and I was told I could return to USXpress ANYTIME I wanted. They were sorry there had been a mix-up. Will I? No. I will NEVER FORGET that afternoon. Being fired hit me hard. You see, I didn't just take a bus from 'wherever' to the terminal there in Ohio. I had flown there, at my own expense, from 2,000 miles away, on credit. My recruiter and the people in orientation KNEW IT ALL. So I called Werner. I had worked for Werner before, for a couple of months only, with LOUSY trainers. I really didn't want to go back there. But I had no choice at that point. For all these poor people on this board, doing their 'research', but not believing the stories they read... The day will come you will write your own stories, and no one will believe YOU either. Those drivers who have been hanging in for a couple of years already with these companies. You will be tossed on the heap like the rest. You've just been lucky so far. Get your safety net ready. It will come when you least expect it. The only solution for this mess is educating the public. The well of rookies will eventually dry up. |

| Intelligent guy named IN MY DREAMS will be singing a different tune if he stays in this business Thats the problem. For some reason these wannabes and newbies just think we are a bunch of disgruntled ex-employees who are trying to disparage the reputation of a fine irregular route motor carrier. ![]() I have posted on USX many times and think that since I worked for them for over 6 years and know how they operate and what they actually think about their drivers, one would not need to be given any more facts then the 3 below. 1. 100%+ turnover rate 2. You the company driver in the eyes of USX and most OTR carriers? A hobo on wheels. 3. You want fair treatment from your employer? Don't drive OTR |

They turn themselves into that, slowly but surely. Sorry but USX hires many women including one who was the leader of the ATA road team a few years back and a million miler. If women put on leather and have tattoos it is certainly not to fit in at USX due to prejudice. I know for a fact that USX bends over backward to hire women drivers (worked for them as a driver for over 6 years) and will even give them a shinny new truck while the rest of us got beat to hell trucks. "Doris Day" look alike or not, adjusting mirrors, seat and familiarizing yourself with guages should be done before you roll during the road test, not after. Cheap fail? yes but if they had to many recruits show up that could do it. I have no love for USX but prejudice due to race color or creed ? nope they could care less . |
