This make no sense, unles you have been to that particular shipper/receiver before and know there is something wrong with the direction. From you response you must be joe trucker who never needs help..

My advice is if you never been there it is better to call and check the directions once you get close to the city were the load picks up or deliveres.
I had deliveries that said they are in X city on the dispatch but if you waited untill you got to that city you may have juast passed the customer.
I found some places right on the border of the city.
Then you have to find a place to turn arround and go back gess what those would also be unpaid miles.

You have to double check everyone's info because if you make a wrong turn it may cost you a load of money.

Why should any company pay their drivers the extra miles because they got lost?

Mine never did and It did not bother me because guess what I always allowed an extra hour cushion just in case of construction in the area etc.
If Anyone needs their hand held then they should not be a truck driver.
I also do not belive in crying over a few miles here or there I will use the truck for my personal busniess that way we are even.

True you should check your directions, but sometimes a newbie doesn't know this.. This would be something that he wasn't taught by his trainer.. But again, companies have computer directions for a reason, they want you to go their way, because supposebly it is quicker, and saves fuel.. Now once you've ben driving for a while, then yes you should know enought to double check any directions the company gives you with shipper/receiver..

The trainer I had at my first company taught me that to allways double check the directions.
He also said while they are on the phone ask if there is any close overnight parking ie truck stop vacant dirt lot etc. Or if they allow early deliveries.

Quite the opposite. You know if you're looking for P&G and all of a sudden there are nothing put powerlines and cornfields ahead, you're going the wrong way. There's absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help, but to be led around like a child, newbie or not, is ridiculous.

Then maybe to solve some of these issues would be to have all trucking companies have no directions at all, and leave it up to the driver to get directions from the shipper/reciver.. Or give the driver directions to the nearest town by the customer, and let the driver get the remaining directions from there..

Hey Beromo,just curious how is it going gettin back into it after a year off.I 'm just know getting back into it after a year off.The ###### thing is Werner is the only one that will take me back.Well Swift will but Im not insain there way worse than Werner.

drove with werner (48 state) for 2.5 years. seemed like the given directions were off/wrong 1 out every 4-5 customers. for all the beef i have with werner i must admit u might wanna give that part up, it's the driver's responsibility to show up on time -- bad directions or not. other than that sounds like the usual big company BS. too bad these big companies have no qualms about destroying a person's life.

Well, It took a bit of interviewing several different companies - CRST, Swift, Covenant, etc but I finally decided to go with Schneider. They seem very professional.

Werner did send me a card and I received a phone call from them as well, but there is no way I would ever consider them or refer to anyone entering the world of trucking. It's funny, I have been reading some of the comments and I must say mostly all of them are only focusing on the "lost" part of it not the real reason I left Werner. I did learn a valuable lesson as a newbe - Always get in writing by contract what a company says they are going to pay per mile. Werner's associates told me that I would start at .26 cpm which in all reality turned out to be .13 split with my partner at the time. Big time rip off company, aren't they?

I start the end of this month with Schneider at the Fontana Terminal in Southern California and I am exicted and looking forward to it.

Incidently, I almost went with Swift and for some reason backed out at the very last minute, gut instinct.
