Every OTR company I ever worked for had more trucks then they needed. Your DM/DP/DSR (take your pick) would be telling you on the phone or Qualcom that frt was slow or they were at - 20 here and - 40 there etc.. and you would look out the window of your truck and see the orientation guy walking the newbies around the yard telling them how great freight was at company x.

]We do NOT have 100 trucks waiting to be fixed, needing to be fixed or anything close to that. We have 2 in the bay right now and I know of NO trucks currently needing to be repaired that are not in the process of being repaired.

Every OTR company I ever worked at except Interstate Dist., had problem with their trucks that needed to be fixed but unless you refused to drive the truck they would not fix them. I had to go to D.O.T scale houses on many occasions to get shops to change bad tires, batteries or fix air leaks or fluid leaks. And I drove for major carriers not some 5 or 10 truck outfits. Try getting these OTR outfits to give you a new mattress or fix a torn curtain or replace a worn out driver seat. Good luck because in most case those are not considered necessity's that they want to spend money on till the truck is turned in.
You may not have 100 trucks waiting to be fixed but I bet most if not all will have a long list of items that will HAVE to be fixed before you can sell them again.

| We actually DO care about our drivers and their safety. |
Then why do you pay them by the mile and pressure them to run illegal to keep your customers happy after OP's drops the ball?

The solution would be to get rid of dirt bags that abuse the equipment and fix what needs to be fixed and not just what will get the truck on the road. And do it before the new hire seats the truck.

| We do have obligations to our customers to get the freight there, just like any industry, and we try to get it there if at all possible. |
Yep and nothing burns me worse then busting my hump to get a late load to a customer and then finding out that x OTR company threw me under the bus to cover their own behinds.

Drivers already know this. Which is why when you treat driver poorly and burning them up, you will tend to hear more complaints from your customers and then start loosing them.

While I do feel bad that this driver had a bad experience with us, I could line up dozens of drivers that would say the exact opposite.
|
So why should a driver want to deal with a outfit that is willing to play a numbers game? If you have a hundred drivers and you only screw over 10 of them, all is OK because the other 90 can be used against the rest to put forth the illusion of tranquility?

As far as holding a check for a month? There is no reason to do that and we would only do that if there WAS a reason to.

Come on my friend, I have yet to work for a OTR carrier that did not try to get out of paying money to me at one time or another. You really made the needle jump on that one.

I don't mind fielding critisizm if it is well deserved. But many of the facts stated by this driver simply are not true. I should know...I work here. A former employee that feels he was wronged may not be the best person to give an objectionable opinion. There ARE two sides to every story.
|
OK, The OP gave their side and you gave yours. And since I know how OTR company's operate and some of the kinds of people who work in their offices and how they truly feel about their drivers. I choose to believe the OP at least about the fact that they are owed money that your company won't pay.
