I too was a person that did not pass my road test at may

1st time in brooks my trainer was doing most of the driving and he would only let me drive on the interstates no intown so I got out of pratice on turns so I was driving like a 4wheeler trying to turn when I tested but I managed to pass the backing course

2nd I was in layton and I was more concerned with grabbing gears and I caught myself grabbing one on the tracks.

3rd time because of my trainer talked to Danny and got me another chance in brooks I passed
I agree with you, 13 speed is a very good trans., and not that hard to learn. It's just nerve wracking at a driving test. And Danny is one of the "Good Guys" at May. Good Luck, Enjoy what you do and laugh at least once a day.

I belive that it may have been part of a bad aditued issue they will not send you packing for shifitng on the tracks or small stuff but if you argue with them or get kind of snotty with them they will not tolorate it from anyone.

I cannot imagine why they would have an issue with a suspension back in 1992 that was 16 years ago and shouldnt even be an issue most companies only do 5 years at max unless it was for something serious but still as long as your record has been ok for the last 16 years it would be unfair and stupid to hold a 16 year old offense against you

Nevermind I can see why they may have an issue with it now because you went 10 years with no license/suspended license......Best of luck to you though hope it all works out for you in the long run

I was told by Danny (and others) that it's an automatic fail - both for your CDL and for driving at May

It is but if the person has a good additude they are more likely to get a trainer then get shown the door.

they say you can have one suspension but hey what do i know, my guess is there a good company, but times are slow and maybe they would rather pay for cheaper labor then pay me, my friend applied there, they told him he woulds been the second highest paid driver they have because of his 15 years experiance. he didnt get hired, because of a suspension.

They will not fire you for those little mistakes that you made.

He was not hired yet if he was taking a road test.

Little mistakes? The not shifting on the tracks is a simulation based on if you are driving a hazmat load. Unsafe operation of a CMV is not a little mistake.

When I went through orientation they failed a guy with 20 years experience becuase he broke a double yellow. I had never driven a 13 speed and had been driving autoshifts for over 7 years and I passed. I just drove the truck like a 8 speed and did not shift on RR tracks.

May was the first company I worked for that gave a actual road test that was not just a formality. When I went to USX they would pile 3 or 4 people in the truck and a couple miles with each driver and that was it.

May took each of us out alone and actually gave a ligit test which I aplaud them for. If you can't pass a road test you don't belong on the road, period.

I went through the hiring process at May and they already had my DMV and DAC before I went to orientation. They hire based on points and a suspension 16 years ago would not be enough points unless it was for DUI. They only go back 10 years for anything else and only assign points if within the last 3 years. You also have 5 years experience and unless it was before 92 you have driven since and currently have a valid license, right?

first I had to put up with you telling me I did not know what the condition of the trailers I hauled for May was on other threads. When unlike me, you never worked for May or drove their trailers. Now you are trying to tell me they got squeamish on hiring you because of a license suspension 16 years ago?

I have worked for 3 other OTR carriers besides May. And Mays hiring criteria was the most lenient of the 4. But none would of disqualified me for a suspension 16 years ago unless it was due to a DUI or some other felonious behavior.
