| I'm going to be a new driver - I've heard the nightmares about Werner.... I'm getting ready to go to school to obtain my Class A CDL and have a Pre-Hire letter. I've disclosed my prior offenses which are as follows in Chronilogical Order: 7/1999 - DWAI (Driving While Ability Impaired) 7/1999 - Arrested for Felony Menacing, and charged with Disorderly Conduct/Noise Distrubance (From a Class 4 Felony to a Class 1 Petty Offense) 7/2004 - Second Degree Assault, Causing Serious Bodily Injury - Class 4 Felony (Dismissed by Prosecution) 7/2004 - Drunk with Gun 7/2004 - Third Degeree Assualt, Class 1 Misdeameanor So my the question arises based on what I've read on the forum.....Do I have the possility of obtaining gainful employment with Werner, and if I do will I make "Pennies on the Dollar." I'm paying for school on my own, so I don't have to worry about a contract (which based on this forum, I think I should ask for it.) Also, my criminal record for the offenses which occured in 2004 have extenuating circumstances, will Werner listen to the explaination? In a Nut-Shell: I had an accidental discharge of a Firearm resulting in nearly Killing my Mother. The round which was fired on the second floor of our 2-Story house went through the floor and stuck my Mother above the Left Eye (destroying it), penitrated her chin, and was finally stopped under her left Breast. The Investigating Detectives recorded the incident as an Accident (which it was), and the out-going DA Bill did not file charges. The incoming DA Mitch charged me with 2nd Degree Assuault which I plead to 3rd Degree Assault in order for my Home Owners Insurance to pay out the sum of our policy, which was $500,000 to cover the Surgeries, Hospital Stay (3 Weeks), Medications, and other items. (Yes it is a very large and long nut-shell.) Do I have a chance with Werner? Will I get what they are telling me via the brochures I've received with my "Pre-Hire" letter promising .36/mile? Will I get a decent amount of Mileage to earn what their brochure say's - $34,000/year with less than 1 year experience? I also have the opportunity to drive for May Trucking and I'm not sure if I will run into the same problems with them. Your thoughts and advise are greatly appreciated!!!! Just make sure with May Trucking that they have taken it to the higher up's for the aqpproval before you go to orentation I would also advise you to get it in writing and have them put in the names of the higher up's. With that many charges It may be hard to get a job anywere that is why I reccomend to get it in writing before you leave your house. Just because you have prehires that means nothing you are not actually hired until the last day of orentation after they run all of your background and driving records. They all say that they run the info before they prehire you but most do not run anything until you are sitting in orentation. You will have to fill out a ton of papers during orentation which includes another application just make sure that info matches you info that you sent in for the prehire. I actuall kept a copy of all application that I submitted that way I could just match up the info on both forms. It also helped me rrember the dates of employment. Ps I may be comming back soo to may trucking soon. I will pm you the terminal number so youi can talk to them in Denver and ask questions. |

You wont get $.36 a mile out of anyone as a newbie and somebody who has not been with a trainer-driver yet. You may get $.30 a mile, but you wont get $.36. While you are with a trainer for about 4-7 weeks (depending on the company) you can plan on about $.12 a mile(or about $500 a week) You may get $.36 after a year, but you wont get it in your first year from anyone that I know about. Also, NEVER Go anywhere that will pay for your schooling. They really dont "pay" for it, you do by taking less on the mile and then they are only paying a partial amount anyhow. Average pay with a company who is "paying" your schooling for you starts at about $.23 per mile. Average from a company who does not "pay" is $.30. Plus if you decide that you dont like it, driving is not for you, you want to move on and so forth. You still have to pay for that school and you wont have them doing it. Your pre-hire letter will not ionvolve any kinfd of monetarily promise anyhow, since it is just that-a pre-hire. The company only issues one of them if they are interested(which is to most of the students that apply) IF when you are done with your school, then they will have you fill out a real application(most companies make no absolute decisions until you have the paper in hand), And most will not have a final until you have that CDL in your hand, since they cant really do anything with you until you do. Good Luck- |

| I said average. May Trucking(they also have a bad company page here. might want to look at it) is fine if you are a West Coastie, but if you live East of the I35 corridor, have fun getting home or hired with them. |

May or may not. But with his accident prone history would you want to be on the road with him? With his history kinda scares me. I handle all kinds of Guns (410 Gauge, 20 gauge, 16 gauge 12 gauge, 22 Cal, 302 Cal, M16, Colt 45, and 9MM Beratta) and never had one to go off unless I pulled the trigger.. If he careless with a gun will he be careless with the Truck? That would be my worry.. A Truck can do as much and more damages than one round accidentally going off. Lot of Companies will look at it the same way also. Not trying to rain on the op's parade, but stating facts..

| try covenant...they hire felons and non speaking english aliens, this planet and others .......you won't get big $$$ till you get miles and experience under your belt, but here you might get a start..........you will make good $$$ here while training, the trainer will ream you in style. but it is a course you must go through, and werner trainers are in my opinion, psychotic and useless...stay away from the weiner wagon, or they will grind you into sausage and s**t you out......... hate to say it but they are worse than COVENANT, i would rather start again at SWIFT, really.......... ![]() best wishes ............. |
