I drove for melton for 7 1/2 years and quit being one of there veteran drivers plus a safety trainer..Melton doesnt care about there drivers and right now they have veteran and million milers quit because of there lies about slow freight and giving the new guys all the miles for the first year..They rip you off every chance they get..My miles sucked averaging about 7500 miles monthly at .43 per mile..New drivers were getting 11000-12500 miles per month..Ive seen the paperwork on these miles for my fleet I was on and my DM would still deny it saying that miles sucked for everyone..Plus every time you go to the tulsa or laredo terminals you have to go see safety so they can check your logbook against the computer/qualcomm and if it doesnt match up perfectly with computer watch out because they jump your case big time and they will and can fire you for it..They treat there drivers like little kids and its a joke to me..Then you have to go see fuel compliance where they check your mpg and idle time, overspeed time and if its out of there so called range they jump your case on that topic to..Melton does pay good but to make money you need good miles and they dont have the miles so it doesnt matter what the mileage pay is if you dont get the miles..After I quit I got my DAC report and they put on there that I was constantly late on loads which is another lie..If I was late all the time I wouldve been fired and not been there for 7.5 yrs...So if your thinking about working for MELTON then my advice to you would be DONT...unless you want to be lied to ect...plus lose your house, car, get behind on your bills ect...Melton is a joke..and a BAD company to work for....

Wow, You don't hear a whole lot of bad things about Melton. But I guess you should know since you've been there 7 1/2 years. I guess it wasn't always like this or you would have been gone a long time ago. Good luck.

My husband and I have been considering working for Melton and we were worried about the miles, but we currently split .30cpm at our company with about 4000-5000 miles a week. At Melton we would be solo drivers instead of a team, and if you do the math compared with our current rate of pay and miles we get, Melton comes out the same or more, even with the lower miles per week. So we think to ourselves, work less get paid the same or more, work for a smaller company. Also, we gety paid $20.00 to tarp...so sad.

You are really the first person with serious complaints. Every other driver we have talked to who works with Melton has issues like you would at every job but nothing beyond the ordinary. Thanks for the comments.

I quess what you say could be true but I dont know. I''ve got a friend who has been there about 5 months and he stays running, the only thing he has a problem with is getting load over the weekend or on friday. Most of the time he cant get a load so he has to sit over the weekend, that would be about his only complaint, other than that he really likes it.

I worked there for a while and kinda agree with c04, the miles were aweful and that is the reason I left.

I didn't want to but local jobs in the oilfield blew meltons "paycheck" out of the water. They have great equipment but didn't seem like they had the freight to run it. There were times I would sit 3 days during the week to get a 600 mile run for a weekend. You can't earn a living like that.

I''ve got a friend who has been there about 5 months and he stays running,

The OP stated that new hires are getting more miles in their first year.
Ask your friend how their miles are in about 6 months.

This happens at many OTR company's. As your pay per mile goes up your miles go down. Most of these larger outfits don't have freight for all their trucks so will have to sit one truck to roll another.

It seems the new excuse company's are using to trim the fat is your logs and fuel consumption. And you can bet that the more you make per mile and other bennys you may have coming. The more they will scrutinize those areas.

Believe me, when these outfits are having it good they could of cared less about your logs. Strait lines, no white out and good addition is all I ever had to worry about. Guess times are a changing.

I drove for Melton from Feb of 06 to Mar of 07. I hate them. They load up your DAC report with lies. Try to force you to take dangerous and illegal loads. They treat you like a child. They constantly lie to you. And forget about filing any kind of charges against anyone there. They blow you off. Also. Forget about going to their so-called safety dept. about a customer. They will tell you they won't do anything.

They are also bigots. Mr. Dave Decker of their safety dept. is the worst. If you are not christian. They do not want you. I was even told by their safety dept. that Melton was for christians only and all others to stay away. That is discrimination and illegal. I gave seven years of my life fighting for this country. I have as much right to be here as anyone and should not have to deal with the hatred of close minded trash like Mr. Dave Decker.

We had a 12.00 paycheck last week. Stuck in Southern California over New Years for 4 days, that is a whole other story but long story short, they wouldn't give us an advance so we could get some food. Not even 25.00 for a loaf of bread and some lunch meat. Had to have relatives Western Union us some money. Needless to say, my opinion of this company has been steadily declining but now it's in the gutter...
