i got appoved by prime and millis. Not sure which direction to go any input would help. i think i would like to stay on the east side of the mississippi. please help! i am going crazy thinking about this.

Think they are both fine companies, but that 6 months of training at Prime is big turn off. I agree the more training the better, as long as it does not affect you financially. It's a great deal for the O/O training you, but maybe not so much for you. With Millis, you will be out making money on your own in just a few weeks. They both haul something that is not affected much by the economy...Millis - Beer / Prime-Frozen Food or Temp Contr. Jonny

I would probally go with Millis, if I was you. They are one hard company to hired with, so if you made it through the process then you maybe should take a look at them.
I wouldnt waste my time on Prime, there is no comparison whatsoever between the 2. Prime is gonna try to talk you into a lease program and you will loose your butt over that. I dont think that Millis has any O/O's, at least I have never seen any. If you live in PA and want to stay East and get home every now and then, I would probally try Millis.

I just looked at their(Millis) website and they have a better pay program for students, I have never seen a company that pays progressively for the training program and they do starting at $500 for the first week and going up to $700 for week 6. And their hometime guarantee of 36 hours for every 7 days out( and that is uninterrupted hours according to them). And then they offer $.29(w/perdiem)and $.34(wo/perdiem) for inexperienced driver after training. (Somebody here on these boards told me there was no way that you could get that kind of money as a newbie). SOunds pretty good to me. Prime is not gonna offer you any of that type of pay.

Now remember, I dont know if you finished school yet or not, but these companies that pre-hire will not actually hire you unles you have that CDL in hand and most wont make there final decision until you do. And when you are done with school, you want to go to work as soon as possible so you are not forced to either take a refresher or spend longer time with the trainer. Your pre-hire means that pending your school outcome, there is no reason why they cant hire you.

For what it's worth, I have no experience with either of them yet...but if I were in your shoes, and digested everything I've read about both companies, hands down Millis.

Prime may not be bad if your a company driver.

thanks big papa but do you have any info on each of them. pros and cons, i just don't want to be one of those guys who has a bad experience and then bad mouth a company, thats not my style.

not really remember where ever you go its what you make of it. positive attitude will get you further. pay scale isnt bad either

I'm in orientation with May Trucking and the Term Mngr was talking today about how a company get's points for drivers being pulled out of service for HOS violations. He was saying that Prime has the worse record for that at 90-some-odd %. Something to consider. May has like 7 or 9% but we're also smaller than Prime, Swift, and Werner. Millis sounds like an East Coast May, or if you're near Florida you can go to May.

Hate to burst your bubble about May but your terminal manager did the typical "lie to make everyone else look bad" routine. If he is referring to DRSEA SafeStat scores he is correct that Prime's current DRSEA SafeStat score is 96 BUT he is way off in representing May's score. May's current DRSEA SafeStat score is 41.34 and Prime's is based on a recent safety audit which May hasn't had for awhile. As for actual Driver Inspections (because several factors make up the DRSEA score) Prime has had 12,355 inspections in the listed period and only 987 resulted in an Out Of Service rating which equates to 7.98% (a long way from 90%). May has had 4,508 inspections with an OOS rating in 165 of those for a 3.66% rating. Keep in mind that the number of OOS violations can be multiple for some drivers (in other words, a driver could be hit for an 11 hour, 14 hour and 70 hour violations in one inspection but that counts as three separate violations) so the percentages of DRIVERS placed out of service could actually be lower.
