You're absolutely right. They are controlling, manipulative, almost hateful; and what's more, they truly treat a driver like he or she is expendable. Don Bowman created this culture during the companies growth and expansion, but it will inevitably lead to the companies death. I left Bowman in late December to work for a FedEx contractor. The stress level is nearly zero and the contractor I work for made the change easier with a modest pay increase over what Bowman was paying me.

I can not stress this enough; DO NOT sign on with D.M. Bowman, Inc. If you do; YOU WILL BE SORRY!

i've been driving line-haul for them for 6 mos. now. the previous statement could'nt b more true. Steer clear of this one drivers. i've been looking for a nother co. for 4mos. now. Everytime you come in you see new faces in dispatch, i think the 200percent turnover rate says it all, it also obviously applies to dispatchers as well

Dm Bowman well the old man dont give #### about the outfit anymore since he got into real estate and other things, trucking is just part of his empire . The CEO is basically one of the guys who could sell AC UNITS to Eskimos . Clean Freak Marine that runs orientation well Nutcase . Dispatch saw recently that two of them are still there one was hired first as a goofer in the office , other one was in sales before he is ok as long as u talk really slowly , btw there is 6 of them and they dont talk to each other so figure why u DH 650 miles to Chicago ?? Trucks are rotten Volvos and Macks they wash them every weekend ,why well Maintnance are all most former Wallys employees though recently they have been gerting newer equipment . Just remember if u do ur job they will leave alone , average pay for otr was 550 -to 720 on a good week after insurance u get 500 bucks . REMEMBER "Its Mr Bowmans Truck "

I always try to talk to their drivers on the road but none will answer a CB. They don't wash their trucks every weekend in MD. All of them are filthy and underpowered for Virginia and the concrete they haul. Gosh, 25000 a year? I would'nt sign on if I was starving.

All right. I have to put a few cents in with some figures. I have worked for bowman for 4 years now. When I started I was making $.26 per mile running vans after six months I was making $.29 cents per mile. Now I have no clue what they make in Van division. I pull flatbed and make $.39 cents per mile. I am on a guarantee pay. Making $1000 dollars a week. Sounds good right? Well let's look at this, to make the $1000 dollars they take into consideration tarp pay plus mile. Tarp pay is $25.00. At the end of the week they add that up now here is the kicker for $1000 you have to have $.03 of your performance bonus. If you get $.02 cents of your performance bonus you get $975.00. Here in the next week they will be adding to the performance bonus your MPG and if you can't make at a minimum $.02 cent you get no guarantee pay. Here is what is in the performance bonus. MPG idle over speed 70 mph violation on-time delivery Quallcomm usage. Well during the summer count out idle and cuz our trucks are so restricted I can not make my fuel mileage which is set at 6.7 mpg. So that all for that. Now any more some sleepers are slip seated but most keep their own truck and no one else drives it. I keep my own truck and leave my stuff in it. Day cabs are slip seated tough luck. Driver managers some are good some are not. I am looking for a new job soon due to the fact that bowman will be taking my money from and and won't care a lot of drivers are leaving now. Their turn over rate last I seem in march was 113%. Office people are leaving or looking for new jobs. Hint hint. I do not and will not tell people to work for this company. Any questions just ask

I agree Bowman does suck , i was a tech there not a driver and i had seen enough that i left in 3 weeks. There is a joke there how the shop has a revolving door and as far as the management , well i just write them off as northern attitudes . I would never recommend Bowman to anyone.

Usually I'm not one to post on theses forums. It's only right for me to share some my own personal experiances with DM Bowman. I started out at bowman as a student driver.. their main terminal is only minutes from my house and the 775$ minimum pay guarantee caught my eye. Now the 775$ is for local dry vans. When I started I was getting .33 per mile with a chance to earn an extra .03 for performance. Their are a few requirements however, in order to receive the minimum. - you have to have your hazmat endorsement and you have to get atleast .02 of the performance bonus. Their are 7 different categorys for the performance bonus. They are * no hitting 70. * no excess speeding ( over 63) . * MPG. Qualcomm usage * ontime delivery. * no hard braking. * no excessive idling. None of these in my opinion are hard to accomplish. In the two years I've been here I've always gotten my full .03 therefore I've gotten my 775$. The good thing about the performance bonus is that it goes on top of the minimum pay amount. So I usually gross 830$ per week. Hopefully that clears up all the pay questions. It may have been bad years ago but for now it seems fair. Bowman has however taken away the guarantee without notice on a few occasions, which I'm not a fan of. It's only happened 3-4 times in the time I've been here. I hope this post helps. Me personally would and do recommend bowman as a place to work.

Something has changed there in the last month, they have held their guarantee pay that I earned due to dispatch/planner issues, and have gone down every avenue to pin it on the driver to withhold the pay. It will cost them more to hire a new driver than to pay what was truly earned. I was very proud to work for this company the past year until the last month when every thing has become unorganized, wrong information and location addresses, very inefficient suddenly, rolling hours, weekend time maybe. It's unfortunate, but I believe it is time to move on. It's hard enough to be away from your family but to work your butt off making endless efforts to get the guarantee to have someone decline it because of another's mistake is wrong. Ironically(or not after fighting to get what is owed) after all that I am no where near my home on a Saturday night.....still trying to get home.

Well I worked for Dm Bowman for three months and if you want to make a five hundred dollar pay check week to week doing regional then go there don't believe anything they say they try everything in there power to make sure you only get 500.00 a week paycheck.well for instance do hard braking take money off your check go over 70 mph take money off your check then they have over idling take money off your check. Then if you miss spell or put the wrong number on the Quescom take money off your check.Dm bowman can't keep there hands off your paycheck. It was the first job I ever had to Quit the 25 years I have worked. And if you do go there making 500.00 a week watch your DAC REPORT with them because if you leave they put all kinds of stuff on your DAC REPORT so you can't get a job no where else.So you come back to them.So if you leave DM BOWMAN check your DAC REPORT they probably put something on there to hurt you so BEWARE.
