I wouldn't recommend anyone to work for this company. I went to work for them on 12-10-08 and quit on 1-14-09. They promised in orientation that we would get anywhere from 2000 - 2500 miles a week. I only got maybe 1200 miles a week. They haul 95% automotive parts and not much else. I asked them in orientation what they were going to do when all the GM Plants closed from X-mas until the end of Jan. They told us they had plenty of freight, not the case. They leased some of their trucks on with JB Hunt, and the big problems started from there. Out of five drivers from their Lebanon, TN terminal, that went to haul JB Hunt freight, four of us quit. We all quit for the same reason. They told all of us that we would be paid detention time and layover pay while waiting for loads, and never paid us a dime for the time. We would all have to sit for hours and even days to get a load and were never paid anything for this.
I on the other hand had a few more problems with this company. I broke down on 12-31-08, and sat until 1-2-09 waiting to get another truck. They gave me another truck, and I left the terminal and got about 2 miles down the road when that truck's transmission broke. They gave another truck and sent me to pick up a load. I wasn't told until the next day that load had cancelled and sat at the shipper for 12 hours waiting for dispatch to call me back. The dispatchers at this company do not let the next shift know if someone is having problems, and or sitting broke down. They just work their 8 hours and go home.
I was told I was going to get paid for all this time I sat 4 1/2 days, and never got paid a dime. They don't even pay back any toll reimburments unless you conplain about it. They still owe me over $600 and I am not going to hold my breath.
They owe another driver over $1200 for detention pay. they tell you in orientation that they pay detention and layover pay, and they really don't.
I have talked with some other drivers for this company and some haven't ran a load since before X-mas.

    Welcome to The Truckers Report.

I suggest you contact the attorney general of your state about the money they owe you. The most it would cost you, is your time and a phone call........

Not meaning to be rude but, why would anyone come to Michigan to work for a company hauling auto parts!??? Flint being one of the hardest automotive towns hit with job losses.

Sounds like this guy has had a bad time with Chieftain.. not me, I've been with them almost five years now and yes it was ruff for a time, but things got tough for all the companies out there.. January 09 was the worst.. in 08 I earned 48,800 and was home a couple times a week,, I don't think that was so bad.. I think most of this guys problems were caused by his last of communication skills,, and like I said most of the problems I've seen were caused by a bad economy, that has hit us all pretty hard.. oh I also work out of Lebanon tn...

to the person who claims they have been working w/ E.L. hollingsworth for 5 years. Let's see, you want to say I didn't communicate with them well enough. Okay let's see in all the time that I sat, I called dispatch at least once an hour and got told the same #### every time, "that they were working on it" But you explain to me how a company expects a driver to sit in a broke down truck that can not even idle in January and not at least pay for a Motel room. Had to pay out of my pocket for one.

I really don't know what to say to you. I've been with them for some time and I've not been treated that way.. they fix my truck they pay the bills and as for the time you worked for them which was just over a month?? Was the slowest time of the year for trucking, and yes the whole country slowed down because of the economy.. I really hope your doing better now. The people at Chieftain are the easiest to get along with I've ever worked for.. Oh there has been a few bumps but nothing that could not be worked out.. I wish you the best...
