If you want to know about Perkins I can tell you a thing or two....I am the wife of a man working for Perkins right now. We have 4 months left on or truck and there is now 700,000+ miles on it. We are losing our house, my electric is about to be cut off, there is no gas in my car and no goceries in the fridge!!! Perkins doesn't care, won't let us borrow anymore because we still owe them 250.00 plus our negative balance this week. We are on the verge of divorce because money is the root of all evil. My husband is gone 3 to 5 weeks at a time, he is negative 2 - 3 weeks a month. NOW HOW DOES THAT WORK??? This company is horrible!!!

 

I would never lease. First off, what if you get ill? Then what. You are stuck. Am I right? I know, cause I got sick. Luckily my mate & were only company drivers. Since all trucking companies lease offers are crap, then why don't all truckers tell the newbies not to lease when you see them and talk to them at truck stops, or terminals. If all drivers that go to work for companies would quit leasing, wouldn't that make it to where the companies would have to stop all of the scamming of folks that are just trying to make a living. Couldn't we as truckers pass the word to every newbie out there about the evils of leasing? Put it in the newsletters like the trucker and others. These books and papers will allow and let you write to the editor. And truckers do read this stuff. Sounds like the trucking companies are beginning to be kind of like the government, lobbyists, pharmacy companies ( who have powerful lobbyists in Washington). Hence no cures for big money makers like Cancer. Yet other countries have cures.. I know, because I have it... And have checked out other countries. But just don't have funding to get there. So truckers, if you write in here, you can write in those papers and books that go for free at the truck stops. They do accept emails from truckers. I say warn the others that are not aware of how these truck companies will scam them out of money just to get you to lease their trucks. The payments on the trucks alone scared me off. That was way more than my house payment! So speak up and tell what you know in the papers and books. Cause not all truckers have computers on board. And it took me a while after getting booted from the company to find this forum. Which by the way is great.... Hope everyone had a great Turkey day.

Sorry Michtowboy, I was just talking about big trucking companies as a whole. Seems they all want to dupe people into leasing these days.

 

I had the very same experience with Perkins in Indy. The largest paycheck I ever had was about $200 they wouldn't honor the "warranty" they supposedly had on the 05 Intl I was leasing and they terminated my lease when they wanted me to make it from Charlotte NC to Jasper IN in 6hrs. To this very day they refuse to give my any of my fuel tax reports (which they were being paid to keep) or my 1099. I wound up getting in a load of tax trouble because of it. They promise light loads with "preferred" customers...1/2 of my freight was 46000lbs with a broker. They kept all of my escrow money maintenance fund...the whole works. They store phone numbers at the office so they know if they should answer the phone or not. It was amazing when I left there and went to another company with a lease deal and I averaged $1000 a week saw my family on a regular basis. It would be easy to document alot of this but Perkins won't comply with the laws and they seem to keep getting away with it. The only thing I can suggest is that those of us on here get together and compare notes and take a stand together on it and see what happens.

 

I drove for this company for a little over 5 months.
They are a lease operator company. They are also a rip-off.
You may see your first check and every week after that you
will either be in the hole or only get compensation of less than
$300.00. When you lease a truck from them you will have no say so over the speed of that truck or anything else for that matter. You have to let there mechanic down in huntinburg, in put an inverter in if you desire one. They don't believe in home time at all and you will working like a dog for scraps. They have lost many of there furniture contracts out of jasper, in. They have a kb toys account that will require you the driver to get in the back of the trailer and throw thousands of toys to the receiver standing on the ground. You will be lucky to find a store with rollers. You will also do a lot of northeast. And did i mention after its all said in done you will be in the hole on you pay. This is a nightmare company that will trash you on your dac and andy card (the owner) laughs all the way to the bank every day. There turn-over rate is 93% for the first 90 days for new hires. This should be all the info you need alone. Call them at 1-800-428-3762 and just ask the recruiter for their turn-over rate. This is why they are always hiring. They have a revolving door because of the hell they put their drivers through.

Do not mess with Perkins they are a criminal interprise at best!

 

At Perkins you do not get paid the only thing they pull is your leg , they are a Criminal Enterprise set up to steal labor from tier drivers by false claims, money lundering and more! They have the worst safe stat rating in the U.S. of any company and you will be checked by D.O.T. if you are driving free for them , trust me stay away!

 

I would say if you have been in this business for 37 years then you should have known better than to get involved in a lease purchase. I realize this post is several years old but maybe you will see it.
