That's very simple. They both are carriers, and they run trucks. What's amazing about the contrast, is the traditionally, owner/operators are more independent minded, will have faster trucks, and the safety number statistics are usually reversed.

Companies that have a fleet of just company owned trucks are supposed to have a handle on all aspects of their employees, because they control everything, including the maximum speeds at which the trucks under their name travel.

A lack of experience is usually reflected in the statistics related to accidents. TMC is not out of whack in that area. Their drivers have been falsifying logs and have racked up moving violations. That starts and ends with the company. They allowed it, or may have even contributed to it. Now, they are paying the price for it. Thier drivers pay a price too. They get to enjoy a microscope up their hiney a bit more often than they are comfortable with, while out there on the road.

Yes it does, and it's a shame that more drivers do not take the time to understand that they have a vested interest NOT to run illegal, that is, if they desire to drive for a living in the future.

The FMCSA understands that stopping those that thumb their noses at the rules and regulations is not an easy task, nor can they discover it simply by stepping into select carriers and auditing them. They know that it won't be caught out there on the road, through stepped up enforcement on the state level.

EOBR's are coming. The possibility of a reduced speed limit for truck on a national level is probably going to come down the pike as well. Insurance companies are stepping up to the plate and making hard decisions on who drives those trucks. They are not only going to look at traffic citations. Their also going to be looking at other CMV citations as well.

I also think that possibly TMC policy in the past may have attracted (or at least did not eliminate) the billy big riggers who wanted to run two logbooks. I believe that the attention by DOT has turned TMC into a better company. There have also been many changes in upper management lately.
Nothing will get someone's attention quicker, than to make them hand over a quarter of a million dollars, that they otherwise would not have had to. Hindsight is 20/20. Why people don't look forward, which would head off these things before they happen, is something I have never understood.

I protect my record as carefully as I can. Money has never been as important to me, as my ability to sleep well at night, knowing that I did my best each and every day to live my life with respect towards others.

Then companies would surely have to pay more for longer time to make deliveries.

Electronic On-Board Recording devices, or what is commonly referred to as "Black Boxes", that will record everything the driver does, and that cannot be tampered with by the driver.

Re: TMC Transportation, Inc. - Des Moines, Ia.

I am new(rookie) to trucking, just got my cdl through a local school and am looking for a good company to go with. My school instructor touted TMC as a "great" company.

The TMC recruiter visited us on the range one day and spoke all kinds of great things. I asked her to her face, eye to eye, if what she was telling us was true. She stood her ground and and never faultered.

So I liked what I heard. I got my cdl, called TMC to go over the details and apply and get an orientation date, and lo-n-behold I found out that that nice little female recruiter that was spouting off so much glory from TMC had been greatly wrong about many things. Point is, she flat out lied about nearly everything she told us. If they were being untruthful then, they will certainly lie to me when I get on the road. It quite frankly makes me sick.

Not a good way for a company to start off their relationship with you. I just want to work hard and make good money for my family. Are there any good honest companies out there?

best,
tj

I know less than nothing about trucking so bare with me. What is ISS-2?

This is a rating that the law uses to decide whether or not to look at you more closely at the scales, that is, pull you around back. The higher it is, the more the cops will bother you.

Thanks for that info. So the lower the number the less likely you are to get closer inspection at a weigh station?
