You could probably also have used a voltmeter to show a cop the current flowing through the dashboard and zapping you whenever you touched it.

AND....i would have said to the DM, "tell me, what does the GOM say when you are under load, traveling 65mph on an interstate, and your electric problem REALLY gets serious, and all your lights go out, dash and headlights??

I personally would have found a place and parked the truck and refused to drive it because it was unsafe. Then they need to send a hook out to pick me and the truck up and get me to another. The company I work for has had many Freightliners burn to the ground while moving due to electrical shorts of one kind or another.(it started while moving, finished while on the side of the road) Not all systems in todays trucks are fuse/breaker protected properly with all the new multi-plex wiring systems. But they don't find out about which ones until they are paying for a replacement truck/trailer and load.

This is why TMC now uses Peterbilt and Kenworth tractors. The freighshakers just sucked. It is also my belief that TMC's "no inverter" policy is left over from the freightshaker days when just a small overload would burn the truck to the ground.

TimTruck: Thank you for finally admitting that you do not and have not worked for TMC. Please find another company that you have not worked for to complain about.

Mack E-6: I doubt the voltmeter would have worked. I believe that the stray voltage Rlight described was only intermittent and you need a special expensive recording voltmeter for that. A cheap volmeter will not react fast enough or hold the reading long enough to be of any use.

If Rlight was not able to resolve things with his fleet manager there were many other approaches that he could have taken. Contrary to popular belief your fleet manager has 30 other drivers to take care of and he may not be able to read your thoughts to realize that you didn't like his joke. The first thing to do is to give them enough time to deal with things. A big company like TMC has two speeds: When they want something to get done it happens in minutes, when YOU want something it will take days, or at least seem like it. You can either be clever about how you phrase things or you will be stuck waiting. If you are planning on not driving that truck again after you get done with this run unless it is fixed you need to inform your FM of that. If you word your ultimatum stupidly then you won't get what you want.

If you say to any company: "I won't drive it until I get a new truck" don't expect them to let you leave that one on the side of the road and walk into a truck dealer for a new truck. You will probably have to get that one fixed so it is safe and legal to get you through a terminal for a new truck. Of course if they have 5 people ahead of you and there are only 4 trucks you will not get one. Your FM is not a magican and cannot make one appear for you. You can take what the company can offer you or leave it. It's your choice.

If you say to any company: "give me a new truck or I quit" expect them to reply with "go ahead and quit" because the USA does not negotiate with terrorists. Once they give in to your demand once you will continue demanding. It is better to break the cycle before it starts and call your bluff. You are not the first person to say that to them. This applies to any demand followed by a threat.

Instead try something like this: "I do not feel safe continuing to drive this truck in this condition with problem xyz. On my next load plan for some extra time to take it through a shop and get it checked out. Check with our repair department to see if that is under warranty and if they would prefer our shop or a dealer."

If you show that you really want this problem fixed you can get it fixed. If you are just looking for an excuse to quit then that is what you will find. I suggest you read a book on dealing with people. I reccomend Dale Carnegie's book "How to win friends and influence people" and "Dealing with people you can't stand" By two Dr's named Rick.

Actually I am a driver, do you read anything or just talk. You seem to be the one that knows it all and you havent even been to driving school yet! But you should really know it all soon, since you are going to Swift driving school and those guys they know it all-if you dont beleive that just ask one of them. HAH! BTW, like I said $60,000 plus last year and I am home everyday, so find somebody else to be sarcastic with. Just like I said, I have NEVER made less than $.30 cpm and I have never "slaved" for any company I have worked for and I refuse to start. I already told youif you want to live in your truck and slave to your company then, hey knock yourself out--that is one of the problems with this industry--is that drivers and now prospective drivers,(like your self) think they know all about it and you cant tell them anything. You were the one that said you would make $47,000 at Swift, not me--I just said that if you think you can make that at Swift--then you just kep telling yourself that, and when you sit down and realistically realize that you make about $29,000 your first year at Swift, dont say that you werent told so. If you think that $.23 to $.24 cpm is good pay starting or otherwise, then you just go get that job and bust your ### for your $400 a week after taxes. HAH!

Tim, you act like such a child. You say whatever you THINK is true, or what you THINK someone has said, and if it doesn't fit your 'story' you just ignore it, and like all kids, it will BECOME fact.

Never, no where, did i say i would start right out of school and make $45k+ a year. I dont expect to 'slave' to any company, and that is totally your opinion...and you already know what i think about your opinion. You never did answer my question, as to where can a newbie driver, FRESH out of a school go, and make $0.40cpm???? answer that question. You obviously cannot. Make less than $30k my first year? Maybe if i am only running 1500 miles a week. But what is that...3 loads? maybe 4-5? I am staring Swift training Aug. 13th. So by middle of September, ill get back to you on just how poorly treated i have been so far.

again, you keep showing this NEED to pound your chest about how you are home every night, how GREAT your job is, etc. Why do you have to do that? Nobody really cares.
