    Well you keep that attitude and you will be the pizza hut guy! The fine is not for a wreck that is not your fault it is for when you back into the wall at a shipper, hit the pole at the gas pump you know driver error!!!!

    TMC maybe on the bad board. Tahts only because someone was pissed off at the company. But for TMC not to charge you the $300 for damaging there truck is right. why sould there insurance go up because of someones bad call? ive been here (dec 16) going on 6 years and have had to pay in the $300 for my bad calls. I mean think about it if you can fix your car and not turn in to the insurance company your rate is not going to go up. that is only fair. Also just about every company charges and escrow acount that they put money in to from your check till it reaches a set amount. that money is used for truck retrieval, cleaning the truck, and you dont get it back. that is just a few of the thing that i can think of that the money is used for.

    I have never worked for a company that put money into an escrow account. Most companies only have escrow for O/O's or Lease drivers, but not company drivers.
    I understand your thing about the insurance deductible--I never thought about it that way, but I see your point. If the truck is damaged though, you must have an accident report, whether internally or by the police. If it is something that happens on a public land such as a road or something then it would have to carry a police report which would go against the insurance. Most companies in this business are self-insured, which means that they have a bond that covers each of their truck up to at least $1 million property and at least $2 million loss of life, but they still have an insurance carrier to administer the plan, so they are not really affected by a raise in their premiums, but they are subject to DOT inspections based on their accident claims.

    ..haha, had to laugh at this, I don't think animals go out of their way to hit a truck, I think it's the other way around, we hit them.. but i get your point..

    ..spent a good portion of my evening Sat. reading all 92 pages & would consider TMC as one of the companies I would like to work for, considering the issues posted here were minor compared to what I've read about some of the other 'bad trucking companies' listed on this forum..

    ..my driving record is clean as far back as they can go, I'm a non-smoker & only drink at social events & that isn't very often, never touched drugs so those tests wont effect me, never been on any prescription medication either, in fact I've never been hospitalized for any illness.. The only issues right now would be I haven't worked for 2 years & my age (62 in Jan) so that might affect my hiring elegibility with them; I've been retired since July of '06 but since the stock market crash my pension is shot to hell & i will have to go back to work to support my family overseas, that's why Iam going to school right now at SAGE to get my CDL..

    ..for me home time wont be an issue, I could run anywhere they want me to & my time off will be spent in a motel room when i need it, right now it will be cheaper than renting & paying utilities when I'm not there, so I could run all the legal hrs/mi's they want me to.. from what I've read here the % rate would be the way to go right now because no one is getting the miles they need to earn a decent income until the economy picks up again, but I will consider that option later if I'm hired.. right now I'm considering CRETE, TMC & MAVERICK for flats if I can get pre-hired..

    You would swear to God that sometimes they actually do! Once about 2 winters ago, I was coming down I69 just north of FT Wayne, and there were 2 deer in the middle(1 buck and 1 doe) Well the DOe ran right out in front of me, and the buck decided that he would wait, Then he decided that he could make it under the trailer, I felt the trailer roll over him, but I saw nothing in the mirrors. When I got back to Indy and I dropped the trailer on our yard, there was blood and hair all over the crank handle for the landing gear, so I figured that he gorred himself on the handle!

    Dont worry about your age, you will find that you are not the only one at or near retirement age that is new to driving out here.

    You may want to leave Crete off of your short list, TMC and Maverick are much more geared to training the newbies and both have excellent training programs

    maverick has a hiring freeze right now so tmc might be the one to go with. I have been looking and investigating companies on here for a month and tmc, roehl, maverick are the best flatbed comp out there:biggrin_255:

    ..I forgot to add MTC (May Trucking Co) to that list because they're not far from where I live now, they pay a good starting wage of $420 a week during training, tuition reimbursement, 30¢ after training then..
    31¢ at 6 Months
    32¢ at 8 Months
    33¢ at 10 Months
    34¢ at 12 Months
    & ½ ¢ Raise Every Six Months after that..

    ..I think I checked out Roehl & 1 of their hiring requirements was that u live in an area near 1 of their terminals, so I wouldn't qualify if that rule still applies to new hires.. I included Crete because I used to live in Lincoln, my brother lives there & my storage unit is there, so they would work out great for me. Their website states this exception to their 1yr OTR requirement..

    ..so CRETE will be my 1st choice for dry van, then TMC for flats..

    The report read, "I had to swerve 3 times before I could hit" him so maybe you're right. I came down Soldier Summit UT on the 2 lane around 2 AM, eared back and empty going to SL to load. A buck walked up on the pavement, 5 does stepped up to the yellow line and I hammered on it as I figured the harder I hit the better. The buck stepped about 4 inches across the center and the does stood still and I took the skin off their noses and the hair off his butt. About a 3 second thrill ride from beginning to end.

    I just want to say that althought I know that no company is perfect, it is obvious that TMC does not care at all for it's drivers and that high-turnover does not seem to be an issue with them.

    My husband was just fired today for being unable to get a load to a customer on time because he had to wait at a shipper for 7 hours. After this, it would have been impossible for him to arrive at his destination at the load appointment time unless he cheated his logs and drove illegal, something they claim is absolutely forbidden because they care so much about safety.

    The shipper complained that he was unable to make it to his destination in time, and he was promptly fired...one week before Christmas, and without taking a statement from him.

    I am astonished that TMC can make the claims they make on their website and that they can preach so highly their value of safety.

    Fair warning to all those seeking a truck driving job, AVOID TMC at all costs!
