Western Star Transportation - Carson, CA - Watch Your ###

Discussion in 'Report A BAD Trucking Company Here' started by SouthernComfort, May 7, 2009.

  1. I just wanted to update everyone. I have found my dreamjob. I am working for a guy who has his own authority, I find my own freight, and best of all... I am paid a salary whether I drive 10 miles or 1000 miles a week. He supplies my phone (pays for it) and my computer (pays for it) gives me a company credit card with a $5000 credit limit to buy things I need for the truck. I could not be happier unless the Tropicana Girls came up and said that I had been chosen to be thier oilboy.

Good luck everyone, and keep looking, your dreamjob will be out there somewhere.

:biggrin_2552: Now i have heard alot bout western star some good some very very bad, but take this in account from one of there very own drivers.

Some drivers are not made to run for this company they need to stick with hold your hand companies like J.B hunt, swift, stevens,SRT or any other big company.

This company has it's faults to know doubt bout that but it has it perk's to you get to run pretty much where you want once you have earned your stripes just like the rest of us veteran western star drivers. We drive top of the line equipment they run 70mph if you need to go faster you should have left earlier:biggrin_25523:

Now this company is ran by a woman for those of you who have problems with that dont come here it's not 4 you. Her name is Jackie and she is a hard woman to get to know believe me i know but she is hard and fair at the same time. All she askes is to run hard and get the job done without having to hold any cry babies hand cause if she has to do that you arent a professional and you dont belong here at this company.

We have a yard in carson,ca with it's own cold storage and we supply our own freight thru LTL pickups through the entire state of california and freight that comes through the border. The office in cali is ran by holly but make no mistake JACKIE is the boss and gives the orders for who does what and when. When you leave carson your desination will be wherever with 3 through as many as eighteen drops(just examples) but does happen. you get 35dllrs 4 every LTL drop from cali. Now coming back sometimes you may have to (depending on where you are) run some short loads to get you to a meat or chicken house. BUT most of the time all loads back to cali are just that back to cali. We haul alot of meat i stress alot of meat back to cali.

Now most of the time you load on friday night or saturday morning depending on where and what your hauling, but they do have loads during the week if not you can do local work 4 35dllrs a pick or run the BAY(4 those not cali savi) oakland, san fran, madera, santa rosa, san jose) do a drop and either straight load out with something or make picks 4 mark the bay load planner and bring them down 4 friday night reload.

We all make .36cents per mile but as i stated b 4 it has it perk's and it has it's faults but what company doesnt. Now if your not a cry baby or whiny baby and wanna drive great equipment this might be the job 4 you.(oh yeah by the way you may start in an older 2007-2008 truck) but once WARREN knows you dont tear up his equipment he will upgrade you(oh ye i forgot he is the owner and they are his DAUGHTERS) So if you think you might wanna try to get on with this company (word to the wise) play along to get along:biggrin_25523:

Sounds like the classic "get em' in the door so I can earn that commission" recruiter BS ...

Or the "get em' in the door to earn the Job Creation tax write off ... (and every other expense as well) ... except of course - your expenses.

Depending on their recruiting system and the tax benifits, kind of common with these outfits ...

Yes they are. In California you can report to the Labor Commissioner for abuse. I once drove for a Co. when I quit they did not pay me some miles. We went in front of the commissioner and won my case. The trucking Co think they are above the law until they hit the wall

  7. Wow, I had forgotten all about this post until I got an e - mail message telling someone actually replied to it.

I hold no ill will toward the company, maybe I wasn't a good fit, or maybe there were other reasons. Sufficed to say, I am very happy here where I am now. In fact you couldn't pry me out of this truck with a 20 ton wrecker and a team of wild horses.

I wish each and everyone luck in finding thier dream job.

    Life at Western Star,

Every driver that approaches me on the road or at a truck stop and inquires about W/S I simply offer them the reality of this small company...they are 100% old school, that is to say you will be running hot more often than not.
You do what you are asked...and if you are wise you will keep your mouth shut and stay clear of trouble..AND enjoy some very nice paychecks to boot.(Generally over 1200.00 a week bring home)

Once again this is a hard ### old school outfit...Home time is rare and if you end up getting some its usually very short.Everyone here at W/S works very very hard...if they didn't they simply would not have a job.

They have minimal tolerance for accidents from what I have seen and zero tolerance for critters in the trucks and no tolerance for physical violence
    amongst the employees.

Keep in mind I am not complaining,I seem to fit in here at W/S and I like it
    in spite of myself.
I am just setting the record straight for anyone who has the desire to ride with these folks.

Be very careful of the choices you make.

    Good luck fellas

Western Star is a joke. I have been trucking over 20 years and have NEVER. had to wonder[ if I was going to get paid. Jackie is rude and overbearing. This company has a a habit of holding driver pay to finance the running of the business. Drivers brware.CENTER][/CENTER]
