Are you saying that Schneider is the cheapest friggen carrier out there?

Well, I have to agree with you. Anytime you have to give up free time, I say you are at the wrong company. Who wants to work for free?

It's too bad that most otr companies pay like this. What a way to cheat the driver. Just a little more off of the drivers backs.

Good luck in getting that hourly job. I get paid by the hour and there is nothing better. Just think, you actually get paid for all of your time. That is a strange concept to otr companies. Well, good luck.

Yes, God forbid a "professional driver" actually look professional. And as for the patches and insignia, I agree completely...no one should ever take pride in their accomplishments and demonstrate for the public that we are anything less than the road-worn, cigarette smoking, pot-bellied scum they perceive us to be. What next? Collared shirts? No sir! it's unlaundered Peterbilt t-shirts for me. You couldn't pay me to take pride in my occupation and communicate how I've excelled at an occupation that would send the feint of heart running screaming like a little girl.

perhaps the ridiculous amount of hiring they did has something to do with the miles as well. they didn't close the schools until what? february? about 6 months too late. nothing like sitting at a yard waiting for a load, watching students come and go.

ziggy, you rip on that guys post earlier, but your dedicated team run is not indicative of how the whole company is. solo otr drivers aren't doing so well. granted he hadn't worked there in a long time, but I don't think much has changed. I went in expecting a driver oriented company, and was fairly disappointed in what I saw. to each their own, though. my ideal company may not be the same as yours. I wouldn't say schneider is the worst, but they suck pretty bad(to me).

Well one guys experience is not indicative of OTR life either. I was on the phone with someone who was on our account and is doing western regional...mostly the I-5 corridor and he is making slightly more there, than on our account; I think he was getting 2-2500 miles a week?

Also...a driver oriented company can differ in meaning from one person to the next. I think of it as the company putting the driver first; as well as a company that relies on the driver. Give and take on both sides. I know many company relies on me as a driver. I also know that if I have an issue, I report it to the proper people; and if that doesnt take care of it...I talk to my boss directly.
I had continuous problems with trailers for a few weeks...finally took a picture (another guy, a movie) of the problem...sent it in to my boss and the problem was fixed. Another trailer had a issue that I was concerned about in regards to safety (driver safety, not an OOS issue)...so I told the appropriate people. A few weeks later, same trailer with same problem...I took a picture, sent it into my boss and it was fixed the next time I got that trailer.
When my truck goes in for a PM...I send a HUGE wishlist of stuff I need worked, fixed, looked at on the tractor. Most everything is approved and fixed. My truck was in adver....accidentally sent back to the account dock recently and since it was back down there...they decided to fix a few things they werent able to get to on the previous PM.
When you say driver oriented...I like to look at it a few ways...mainly from the angle of the company depending on me and trusting me. When my truck was broken down...our emergency maintenance wasn't able to help and they didn't really understand the situation I was in. I turned around...rummaged through the garbage at a gas station for stuff I needed...used some duct tape and got it running. Got on the horn with my boss and told him to send me up a back up truck. I got home swapped out trucks and made my deliveries early the next day with no delays

YOUR idea of driver oriented might be different. We got a backup driver recently on our account who came from what you might call a driver oriented company. He didn't know how to chain. He didn't know how to drain the fuel water seperator. He complained about his working five days a week. He complained about the route. He complained when I drove through the mountains and wanted to go another way which is 60 miles longer. He didn't like the shortcut I took which had no shoulders. Pampered.
