Cause sadly their STUPID, A lease deal ONLY works out for the company 99% of the times. Now I'm NOT saying all lease deals are bad as I know quiet a few PRIME INC. Drivers who are very happy. So ?????

The same reason Landstar is all o/o. lest say you make $3000 off a load and they make $1200. Lanstar almost made straight profit considering they dont have a truck payment maint issues or fuel all they have to do id pay their employees and trailor maint. and lets say they book 20 loads a day that number really climbs.
'They use L/P's (you are not an O/O despite what you believe:1) because they are cheaper than company drivers.Between savings on taxes, maintenance, and profits from marketing older trucks it is a business in and of itself'

True but the L/P benifits also because you dont have to find the load you dont have to book the load you dont have to go through brokers you dont have to do all the faxing of paper work AND YOU DONT HAVE TO WAIT UNTILL THE END OF THE MONTH TO GET PAID!!! companies pay you and at the end of the month the charge the shipper! so you get a weekly check not monthly and if you ran under your own authority it make take till the end of the month for you to ger paid on some loads not all!
And this is where it benifits the L/P or O/O because they just take the load and GO! and if your an L/P or O/O and dont like how they do things move on!!!

if your not making some money at what you do then something is wrong

They are rumored to be bad about double booking,and a fight for TONU, Detention fees.
However Landstar does not offer a L/P deal,so comparing that specific company to may statement does not apply.
You are correct that an L/P gets paid every week,so do company drivers.
You are correct they do not have to book the loads,neither does a company driver.
A company driver does not have to set aside time to work on his truck,an L/P does.
A company driver does is not responsible for their entire payroll tax(S.S.,Medicare) an L/P is.
A company driver can make a change to their carrier in a matter of weeks with no financial loss(except down time),an L/P looses whatever investment he or she had in that L/P agreement.By the way the "P" in L/P seldom equates to a driver getting their truck.And even when they do it is generally already out of warranty,and well on it's way to being obsolete with modern emission laws coming online.
L/P operators claim to have more compensation than company drivers.While it may appear so up front ,I will submit that with the added tax, additional time for maintenance,the additional work involved in paying taxes,and just the general time spent concentrating specifically on your "business" company drivers break even.
And they do not have as many headaches. -
Trucks are cheap, you want to be an owner operator? go BUY a truck. I hear the market is fixing to get flooded with Freightliners, KW's, and IHC from ARROW right now.......

If you KNEW what you were doing finding loads is NOT hard! They STILL have load boards in the truck stops and any driver running his OWN business knows how or should learn how to go directly to a shipper or honest broker for loads. A laptop in the truck and a cell are much needed tools in the trucking industry. If you rely on that botom feeder company you leased to to find your loads you are way to lazy to be a business owner!
This is why you should have OPERATING CAPITAL IN THE BANK before you try to become an O/O or an L/P! If you do not have the operating capital then why do you think you will become a "business man?" Waiting till the end of the month or when the shipper or broker pays their invoices is NOT a problem for a REAL operator who has the OPERATING CAPITAL in the bank!
This is why so many FAIL! They think starting from scratch with NO MONEY in their pocket is how to become self sufficient in this business!
But they won't listen! Those who sign the lease/fleece are destined to fail! If they DO manage to survive the fleece what do they have when it's paid off? A POS Freightliner (most fleeces are FL's) with 700,000+ miles and no resale value! But they LIKE a FL? ROFLMAO!zentrucking Thanks this.
