ummm, It happens every month bud. Pay per the plan and your last payment is $1. What is so difficult to understand? No we don't own it for a dollar, we own it after we have made the payments and the final payment is ONE DOLLAR. They hand over the papers and it's yours. Again, what is so difficult to understand? Take what ever truck JCT has on the yard for 90 days, then request an upgrade to a new one. Once you have your new truck pay it off and keep it, not someone elses maintenance disaster.

 

Seen so many love-hate,hate-love posts about a truckin co than JCT....guess when I get sick of skateboarding I will have something to do....

 

Im interested in JCT.Quick question,after youve payed off the truck,can you then sale that truck and lease another.And put the money in your pocket?

 

You own the truck, do whatever you want with it. I would only sell it if I was getting out of trucking, drive it and bank what would have been the monthly payment.

 

There are companies out there that actually make money off of leasing trucks to drivers,do the math and you'll see that.
If you want a truck,don't lease it from the company. Go out and outright buy it.

If you own the truck outright and make your own payments,the money the company will make off of you will be from moving freight. They make money long term by keeping you moving and making money. A good broker will walk pretty quickly from a company that can't generate him the revenue he needs.
If they hold the lease they will make money from moving whatever freight they see most profitable for themselves,(Is it not surprising that most lease agreements are per mile rather than percentage?) for themselves plus the money you're subsidising them for the truck payment. Your locked in and cannot walk away when things get lean. Lease purchase agreements are simply a tax for people who are bad at math.

Drivers just need to stop leasing trucks from the companies they work for.

I don't think there are too many drivers out there willing to pay their companies hydro bill but there are more than enough that are willing to pay for the equipment and it's up keep.

 

They make a little money off of leasing the trucks, make a little on selling drivers fuel, a little more on maintenance in their shops, but...they (the ubiquitous "they") are also willing to let the most independent of the owner-ops assume some of these risks, and responsibilities, for themselves and have a shot at making more money, if they want to.

I'm just judging by what our contract reads, so I can't speak for all employers, but, it's almost like they encourage owner-ops to work their way up into their own businesses. That must be bad for them because it encourages competition, right? Yet here "they" are, giving drivers a chance to profit from a little ambition, hard work, discipline and planning. At the same time, "they" give really lousy trips to owner-ops who are stupid enough to accept them and lose money on them. That's always been a conundrum for me.

I agree totally, for one who has the resources to purchase a truck, this is probably the best way to go, if the truck is financed at a very reasonable interest rate. Buy one now, before it costs a trillion US dollars five years from now. Then again, Obama won't be in office forever, and there are tax advantages to leasing.

 

You can setup a lease loan with the banks also.

 

For the bit of $ they make off the leasing side the HEADACHES likely do not warrant it with many of the leasees they likely go through.

 

would this be your 1st truck being paid off....thought you said you had paid off 2 trucks.....could be wrong.

Alan what are the rates and terms and what kind of truck with how many miles?

I have read alot on this thread and JCT thread and can not find out how much the lease is.... like 60 months 7% $70,000.00
for a 2007 shaker 250,000 miles. Would that be so hard to post? Another thing when you wait the 90 days to get the truck you would really like to lease when do you find out about the terms of the lease?

Another great question if you do wait the 90 days does the monies paid into the 1st lease get rolled into the 2nd lease? example "I do not want the POS (piece of crap) but in 3 months i will have to pay about $6,000.00 ($500.00 a week fixed)?

Why would anyone do that wait the 90 days? like going to a car lot and saying " you mean if i pay 3 months on a lease then i can get a car i would like to drive....what a deal were do I sign!"

Reading all these posts it is never mentioned, but about 90% of the people that work for JCT have to wait the 90 days. due to the fact there are only like scub trucks waiting to be seated
