I think you are right, they just got too big too fast and don't really have their lanes figured out yet. That 250-500 truck size is just a tough number to manage. It's too small to serve the really big national supply chains and too big to keep every truck moving by sourcing backhaul. Plus, Halvor puts their trucks into some really tough spots to get back out of.

Also, I think that their dispatchers have too many drivers to manage and they seem a little disorganized. Like you said, they aren't a dishonest company, just a little over their heads right now. I agree with you that they were a better company a few years ago.

There are a lot of good companies to work for in the MN/WI area, so there is not really a reason to work for one that is not working well for you.

What good companys left in this area the only one I can think of is marten transport

I don't say that to be a prick, I am one of those that can't deal with it

My partial list (in no order)...

Lawrence Transportation- Rochester, MN
N&M Transfer (LTL)- Neenah, WI
West Wisconsin- Eau Claire, WI
Jeff Foster- Superior, WI
Bay and Bay, Rosemont, MN
D&T, Little Canada (Afton), MN
Taylor Truck Line- Northfield, MN
D&N- Princeton, MN
R&E Enterprises- Mankato, MN
Tony Nistler Trucking- Duluth, MN
Howe Freightways- Rockford, IL
Vogelsburg Trucking- Faribault, MN

None are perfect and it depends what you are looking for in a company. Not all companies can be right for all drivers. I think these are all run with integrity. Let me know where you disagree...

Galvor has only a few Columbias remaining in the fleet based out of Superior. They run mostly KW 660's and T2000's,which the later camefrom the buyout of TLX. All T2000 will be replaced soon by new 660's and also Pete's that I believe are 387's. Yes, there are 30 of those being prepped at the Pete dealer in town as we speak.

As far as the Cascadias, those are the only decent trucks Halvor has in my opinion. The have 60 series detroits under the hood, also better than the hopelessly gutless Cat C13. I believe they were 14 liter in size, but not the powerful DD15 model.

I despised the KW T600 and 660 because there was no room in the cab and the ride is absolutely bone jarring. Some guys like to think they are Billy Big Rigger just because of that KW hood ornament.

The Freightliner on the other hand rode like a Cadillac compared to the KW's , and has nearly twice the room. And it can actually turn and manuver decent, unlike a KW and a Pete that needs about as much room as an aircraft carrier to back into simple docks.

The T2000 was ok as long as you don't mind driving something as ugly as sin, at least the interior has room to breathe. 387 Petes's would be nice and a little better loooking than the T2000.

If they do get the 387 Petes i wonder will they still have a Cat under the hood or what? 2009 or 2010 was suppposed to be caterpillar's last hurrah under the hood of highway trucks

I agree with the gutless c13, as well as the ride and handling of the Century/Columbia and Cascadia class Frieghtliners.
I would assume that thier new tractors going into service soon would still be NON 2010 compliant, and my guess is they are still Cat powered as well. I know a fellow that works at Pete in Superior and I will see if he knows exact model and power specs.
I do know that its still pretty scary drivng by the terminal every day and seeing at least 100 tractors sitting.
Yes, every day. I am wondering how much of Monson's business Halvor will pick up once they close?

I was also wondering who will be picking up monsons business. Its sad to see them go. I remember when they used to run all cabovers. I also did wonder why halvor spec'd all their 600's and 660's with C13's and 10spds, at least put a 13 in them. Too bad they don't run any w900's with C15s anymore. I also noticed that their new trailers have steel wheels again. Are they going cheap on those now too? I thought they were converting everything to aluminum super singles for weight and fuel savings.
