Thanks for the helpful comments. I think I'm going to start off with Arrow and take it from there. If anybody knows of any other companies hiring student drivers at 21 please let me know.

Melton is a flatbed company just like Arrow and they hire drivers that are 21.

I had a buddy that went to school with me, turned 21 when he graduated started
at Arrow then left for Melton for more money.

Melton paid him more but he did a lot more sitting than anything. He said if he
could do it all over again he would still be at Arrow.

Go to Arrow. I have no experience with them but I live in sw missouri and there are drivers around here. It's gonna be what you make it. Pick up on time, deliver safely, and take as good a care of the truck as they will let. I personally feel this is a bad time to enter the truck industry, but when is a good time? You are going to find things about Arrow you don't like and things you do, but remember this: The more experience you get the more valuable as a driver you become, but you have to give it a chance! I personally believe it takes two years to get comfortable driving a truck and understanding situations you will be required to handle. That includes things on the road and PEOPLE. People are tougher than the truck. Enough. I just hear to many drivers complain about Werner and have for years. They had the same problems in the 80's, 90's and now. GOOD LUCK TO YOU and BE SAFE. LEARN TO DRIVE!!

Melton keeps sending me email ads to hire on with them. I called them once a while back on it and they wanted 3 months recent experience. The lady claimed to not know what exactly they meant by recent but I managed to get her to admit they want 3 months in the past 4.

I am about to complete my 20th year in this industry...that being said, i give you this advice. Stay away from truckers that have negative attitudes!!! We have so much idle time out here that we think too much. We especially think about all of the negative #### that we hear in the truckstops and terminals. You need to be your own person and keep a low profile. When you do go into a truckstop or terminal, pick out the quietest person that you see and gravitate toward that type of person. Good Luck Young Man and take care
