I am 21yrs old just got my CDL. I noticed alot of companies requirements are 23 and older and its hard for me! lol After applying for numerous companies Warner is the only one that will accept me. I dont know what to do because of all the negative comments they say about this company. Since I am 21 is it best to work with them until i get experience or keep looking for better? I really want to drive but no one will pick me up, i am in atlanta ga. Also has anyone encountered that its hard to find a trucking job as a student?

Get in, where ever you can and learn. Listen, watch and do the right things.

yeah u right there is alot of information on here I am applying with Arrow now. So far I have been reading good reviews on them not 100% perfect but better than werner.

jcam I obtained my cdl the day I turned 21 and had the same troubles you are having right now. In fact I was living in Atlanta also and the only co. to give me a shot was Arrow. That was the first and only time Iv'e been on a Greyhound bus and it took 2 days to go from Atlanta to Tulsa,OK.

Yeah I start with Arrow on july 20th and he told me i will leave the 18th for tulsa. how did they treat you as a new driver and do u still work for them? any info u have will be greatly appreciated!

Hi jcam I stayed about a year, long enough to get my tuition paid and then I did the typical rookie mistake, I thought the grass was greener on the other side but it wasn't. If I knew then what I know now I would have stuck it out. I was very fortunate to have the very best trainer they employed though. He was 65 at the time and when I was on his truck he obtained his 1,000,000 safe driving award. He was a very old school trucker and I really appreciate my time with him. I'm sure he is long gone now because that was almost 14 years ago. Also the original owner Mr. Pilsticker ran the co. and his son was just a snot nose punk driving around town in a Porsche his daddy bought him. I was sad to hear the old man passed away. From what Iv'e read on hear I think the kid has turned it into the flatbed division of J.B. Hunt. My advice go there keep your nose clean and learn everything you can. They used to have a terminal in Birmingham so you might be able to work out of there and be home on the weekends. Hope that helps.

My husband came right out of the CDL School and hooked up with Warner. It was a bad experience. Four months later he hooked up with a very good Company called CCC ComCar, they are out of Auburndale Fla, as well as other states. They will also train you must be good at backing up and getting in the space.

hey mann your 21 go to work for warner stay the two years and get a better job. also dont believe everything you read hear. every company out here has its good and bad points. you may get there and love the company. you will do yourself a great disservice if you believe everything in this forum. there are good points about warner in this forum as well. you have to start somewhere.

Getting on with Arrow is a better choice than Werner in my opinion. Just pay attention at orientation and keep quiet.

Hope you get a good truck but don't cry about it if you don't.

Keep all your paperwork straight, be on time as much as you can but not to the point that you're weaving around on the road trying to make it to the next stop. It's flatbed, being on time does not matter as much as dispatch tells you it does.

When the union guys give you #### just give them the shortest simplest answer and a blank look for maximum unload that weird guy and get him out of the way efficiency.

Don't run your tires too bald.

Put another chain on it.

Tarps are only heavy for the first month.

Don't be too hasty to jump ship for another mega carrier. That's not moving up, just sideways.

And um... oh yeah, bring your towel.
