No, I had the job, the bag to take and get drug tested, but the yard was odd, because it had a large pile of rocks in a circle at the front. I needed to move the tractor to the left, but had I done so, I would have run over the rock pile. Instead, I pulled up and tried again, but there wasn't room. Finally I had to safely cross the road when no cars were coming, and I got my trailer straight and backed right on up. Quite honestly, it has been a while since I drove, and I got my wife to get the truth as to why he didn't hire me, and it was because of my backing skills. It took me about three times more tries than it should have, but the right mirror wasn't set right at first, and I didn't think to change it till it was too late. The truth of the matter is I screwed up, but if the guy had given me a chance, he would have had an excellent driver who cares about what he is doing, and has never had a damage claim, never been put OOS, has an absolutely clean 7 year MVR with no points, tickets, or accidents. I am looking for a career, not a job. Sad.

There was another car-hauling rig coming into the yard, and I asked him if it was his truck or the "enemy" (a competitor). He said it wasn't his truck, but the guy was his friend. Another truck was leaving as this one was coming in, and I made them wait a minute or two. Like I said before, I learn from my mistakes, and don't make the same mistake twice. I hadn't driven in a while, and each truck is set up differently. The fifth wheel and rear tandems can make a big difference in the way the truck drives, but especially backs up. I am not trying to make excuses, but that is a fact. I had a job and lost it in 5 minutes. Unbelievable. If you want to know my honest to God opinion, I think the guy was embarrassed in front of his buddies by my lackluster backing skills, so he let me go so he wouldn't have to take the heat. Don't get me wrong, I messed up. I got out and looked a couple times. I did not want to damage anything. I screwed up, so I didn't get the job, but had he been patient, he would have found a diamond in the rough. I actually love care hauling, even though it is sometimes a PITA. It is both his and my misfortune that he let me go before even hitting the road (he waned me to do my drug test first).

In answer to your question, no I have no new leads for a job. It seems like I am cursed. I miss my job at Boro, but I had some harsh words with him that he did not deserve before handing him back the keys, so I very seriously doubt he will ever consider me for re-employment. I broke the cardinal rule when I left Boro: I did not find a new job before I left. Oh well, you live and you learn. I have never done that before, and never will, if God willing I find another job. This crap is really depressing. I want to haul cars. It is in my blood. That is all I want to do.

Whatever you guys want to think abut me, think it. Unfortunately, my wife is working now and I am doing odd jobs, but we are making it. I am not forced into a situation where I have to take any job that comes my way. it is funny that someone wrote that i should write novels. I Harv thought abut that. I am an excellent photographer, and have decent writing skills, but I have nothing beyond graduating high school except going to driving school for 26 hours. i have no degrees, so no one is gong to take me seriously. I think I would make a pretty good photojournalist.

I also do a lot of shooting. I have a two handguns: a Glock model 23, and a Smith and Wesson SW40VE. I also have a Kel-Tek Sub 2000. All three are chambered in .40 S&W, and my Sub 2000 accepts my 15 round factory Glock magazines (or larger, but not my 13 rounder because it is too short). Those are my pistol caliber firearms. My favorite pistol ammo is Gr Remington Golden Saber.

I also have an AR-15: a Colt Match Target Competition with a HBAR2 match barrel. The reciever is stamped CAL .223, but the barrel is stamped 5.56 NATO, so I shoot both. It is 1/9, so I shoot 55-77 grain bullets. I had originally thought that 1 in 9 twists could only shoot 69 grain bullets, but I am copying this directly from my box of Black Hills 77 gr BTHP SMK, "Important Accuracy Information: Heavy Match bullets require relatively fast rifling twist rates for best accuracy. a 1 in 10" or faster twist is necessary for 68 and 69 grain bullets. The 75 and 77 grain bullets require a twist rate of 1 in 9", 1 in 8" or 1 in 7". There you have it. In the advice of the bullet manufacturers, a Gr bullet CAN be accurately fired from my 1 in 9" twist. I have not tried it t range (beyond 100 yards, but I will). These Black Hill 77gr BTHP SMK bullets are for all intents and purposes are the same as MK 262 Mod 0 (no cannelure, and have been known to shoot accurately out to 700 yards!

I also use 69gr SMK HOB Cor Bon Performance Match, Fiocchi Exacta Rifle Match, loaded with 77gr SMK HPBT, PMC X-TAC 55 and 62 gr green-tip LAP (light armor piercing) - both BTHP, and I will tell you that this ammo shoots VEY accurately, especially in it's price range. I have a 100 round drum loaded up with GA Arms 55 gr FMJ. I have American eagle AR 5.56 55gr FMJ XM193J, factory loaded on stripper clips in 30 round boxes -now thats an idea 30 round boxes of ammo instead of 20 or 50 seeing as how most all mags are 30 rounds.

My mainstay is basically military ammo, but is pretty affordable. It is Federal XM193 20 cartridges (but here's where it gets wierd), the next line says 5.56MM M193 Ball, he next line has the lot number stamped, and the next line reads 55 Grain Metal Case Boat-Tail Bullet. Here is where the ambiguity comes in, one line says XM193, meaning t is a military copy, BUT below that it says 5.56MM M193 Ball. If it says M193, shouldn't it be the real deal, but if so, why the top line reading XM193? Anyhow, I think this is the best and closest to issue ammo (besides M855, which I have a few mags of). NATO (not the US switched from M193 to M855 ostensibly because it could pierce one side of a steel helmet at 600 yards. The light armor piercing 62gr m855 rounds are great for those wearing body armor, but do not violently fragment like the M193 does. Another reason for the switch from M193 to M855 green tip was that M193 made such horrific wounds that it was not fair to cause that amount of suffering to the enema. I thought we wanted to win wars, not worry about how whoever we shot feels afterward.

There are reports f the M855 green tip LAP rounds passing right through Tali ban fighters - if a 5.56 round does not violently fragment, then it is not much better than a 22, because it is going to leave a .22 diameter hole through the enemy, whereas a M193 fragments violently and leaves a hole the size of a football in the enemy, based on tests in ballistic gelatin. if I have to shoot someone, I don't want them to get back up, or worse watch 4 rounds go through the enemy and watch him continue to fight.

Wal-Mart here only allows 3 boxes of ammo per customer per day, and for the first time ever, they had the Federal M193 for sale, so my wife and I each purchased 3 boxes, and we noticed another couple doing the same. They had maybe 100 boxes or so, and my guess is that they will all be gone in 24 hours. i shouldn't let the word out, but I want my fellow gun enthusiasts to know. Even better, they were $10.47 a box!!!!!!!! Wal-Mart has never had this ammo before, and on top of that,it is so much cheaper! Normally, Bargain Barn has the best price at $12.99, so that is a savings of $2.52 a box! For 6 boxes, that is a savings of $15.12. That is over $15 on three boxes saved!!! They had a tag for M855, and it is the same price. One thing to consider, and a god reason that I typically don't like to purchase ammo at Wal-Mart is that even though there is no federal or state mandate, they keep video records of all ammo purchases, and if memory serves me correct, they keep the tapes for a minimum of two years. that is not cool, and i have asked cashiers, and they admit to it, but with those type of savings, I have to buy their ammo. If you were to buy 1,000 rounds of M193 or M855 at Wal-Mart, you would save $126 on that much ammo.

I dislike Wal-Mart for a number of reasons, primarily the fact that when Sam Walton ran things, they were proud to sell all American. Now almost all the crap they sell is made in China. Also, WE are paying for their health insurance. I watched a documentary, and their HR people were actually telling employees to get Medicaid because they could not afford Wal-Mart insurance. This alone is costing tax-payers hundreds of millions of dollars a year! But they snag you with their good prices on a lot of things, and being that I am not afraid of the government, and the NASA can kiss my Glock, I don't care if they know how much ammo I have, I also buy from other stores and shows.

I have different ammo for different reasons, and keep the 77gr Black Hills SMK BTHP ammo loaded in the AR because it is the most devastating, and has the best terminal ballistics, but I prefer to save that for long-Ange engagements, but that's what the 308 is for. I am torn between keeping the 77 gr and the Federal M193 as the primary round for self-defense.

Here is some trivia for you if you didn't know it, and I assume that it has something to do with the steel penetrator in the M855. The 62gr green-tip ammo actually has a better bullet co-efficient than the 69gr SK BTHP! Believe it or not, the 62 gr LAP is a longer bullet than the Sierra Match king 69gr Boat-Tail Hollow Point!

My crown Jewel is my Remington 700 5R Mil-Spec. For those who don't know, it is basically a poor man's M24 (The Army's primary sniper rifle). It uses the same 5R button rifling as the M24, and actually the M24 barrels are tested, and say they are 1/10,90th off of perfection, they put them on the Remington 700 5R Milspec. It is a limited run rifle (only about 100 per year), and you usually have to have to order one when they are available. You almost certainly won't find one at your local gun shop or even at a show. Much more expensive is my scope. I have it topped with a Leupold Mark 4 Long Range Tactical 4.5-14x50mm M1 Illuminated Mil-Dot Reticle. It has Leupold 20 MOA base and scope rings. I have over $3,000 in this rig, and in the hand of an accomplished shooter, it can shoot better than 1/5 MOA (5 shots from center to center at 100 yards, and .2 inches between the furthest shots - that would be a 1" group a 500 yards with ideal conditions!). I can't shot as good as my rifle, but I can easily and consistently shoot 3/8-1/2 MOA (1/2" groups or better at 100 yards).

I won't go into as much detail as with the ammo for the AR, but I have a fair amount of high quality ammo for it. At the low end, I have 147 gr M80 Ball. Everything else is 168 or 175 grain premium ammo. No cheap crap.

Besides driving, photography, and writing, I have other skills/hobbies that maybe i could put to work. If I had the dedication and up-front knowledge necessary for competition BBQ, I think I could do that. I am also an expert marksman and very good in the woods. A buddy and me were bushwhacking in the steep north GA mountains, in the middle of nowhere, and he said that if I got him out of there alive, he would never doubt my land-navigating skills. Obviously I am still here. I don't think I am the best thing since sliced bead, but I am fairly intelligent, an have many skills. Unfortunately, I am good at many, but not a super-expert at any. All I want to do is drive a 7 car EZ loader and make decent money. I wold consider a high rail cottrel if they would train you, but almost all 10 car hauling jobs want you to have experience first. My question is where do you get the experience if it is needed before the job? I could figure it out in 2 weeks I think. I wan to be able to say I can drive a 10 car trailer in addition to a car. If only someone would give me a chance.

I lied on my application, and I said that I had 2 car-hauling jobs, when in reality i only had one. I know this was wrong, but I didn't want anyone to see a large period of un-employment. My thinking is that if someone sees that I have not driven in a couple of years, no one is going to hire me. True or not, most all say it is due to insurance. If any O/O are reading this, I would love their input. Yes I should take any job offered, but it's not in my blood. If we were truly suffering and had nothing to eat, maybe I would, but I am not in that situation.

We are getting by, living paycheck to paycheck, but we are not homeless, and are not gong without the necessities. We are not rich, and drive cars that are 13-17 years old. We have a fully paid for mobile home on 3.72 acres in which the land is fully paid for, as I said before. we paid cash for our land, and our home. We got good deals on both. All we lack is well and septic, then we can move up there. Being that everthing is paid for, we could get by with a minimum wage job once moved up there if need be. Remember we have no mortgage, rent, or car payments. If I had a car-hauling job that paid 75K, we would be living the life of the rich and famous, even though we would be living in a 14X70' mobile home. LOL.

I don't prefer inops. I have never hauled one single car that didn't power itself, and I don't want to start. I will do one every now and then, but it won't be my mainstay. There are plenty of dealerships around here. Maybe I should hang out and wait for people unloading and ask if they are O/O or employees. O/O will be more truthful if they are hiring. Perhaps I should drive down to the auctions and see what i can find. i am a professional, personable, people-friendly person with half-way decent looks, so usually if I get an interview, I get a job. It just didn't turn out that way the other day. If I had known then what I know now, I would have a job. I should have really, REALLY thought about where to pull the truck up to to load and unload for the guy, then I could have backed up so much easier. Lesson learned. I was out of trucks for a while, but it has all come back to me now, so if I get another interview, I will be ready. you can count on that. I don't make the same mistakes twice, and I have had time to think things over. Everything I will do, and everything I won't. I honestly think I have seen almost every different tire strap now (I prefer chains).

Wagoneers...I have always thought about them, but I don't have 10 car experience. Do they have EZ loaders, or will they train? Are all their loads covered, and just new cars? I talked to a driver once and I think he said that they paid by the stop, %, and hourly or by the mile. Is that correct, or is my memory fried? Do you work there? I understand they pay well. What are their requirements? Don't they run all 48? I want to be home weekly, at least 48 hours, but I will be out for up to 2 weeks if the pay is good enough, and they will give me several days at home after each run. I am not looking to doing a bunch of 34 hour resets at truck stops. Are all of their trucks sleepers, and if they have day cabs, do they pay for hotels? If you wok there, tell me everything there is to know. They have always been in the back of my mind, but I have generally preferred to work for smaller companies.

One example is that I went to orientation at TMC, but I didn't like the idea of wiggling my toes off the edge of a container on a flatbed 13'6", with nothing to hold onto. Anyway, I was dismissed, but they told me that since I did not finish orientaion, I did not have to list them as employers. Well I got another job and they raised hell because my DAC report said that I had worked for TMC for a month, even though I didn't finish orientation! I was lied to and made to look like an idiot.I actually got a small check from the company that runs DAC, but I waited too long to put it in the bank, so it bounced :(. Anyway, I assume it was due to a class-action suit. i wonder if there is any way to get the check re-issued? I hate DAC, and know that only a couple of short employment periods show up on there because I have only worked for smaller companies. The only large companies I ever dealt with were TMC in which I did not complete orientation (i go to the last day - maybe I should have had some xanax). the other was Rose dale. they hired me, then said there was a hiring freeze and let me go after a week. Wierd.

"I heard the OP drank a 30 pack of Natty Ice when he wrote that"...... "He knew the situation when he got there"........ Maybe he wasn't drinking and you're making that up? Just saying. By the way. The original post was 4 years ago. Which means this was at the "bottom of the pile" so to speak and you searched it out. Stop lying. It's not good for you.

Some people just aren't cut out for work. I know a guy like that from my hometown in TN; probably in his 50's now and has never worked his entire life; won't take personal responsibility for anything. Mitt Romney mentioned these and calls them the 47%ers. It's always someone else's fault.

Well, my friend, you want car hauling, but no in ops, or 10 car haulers. You won't pull a box, or work a flatbed. You won't work for less than .36 a mile. Won't do this, don't want to do that, etc.

But then lament you feel worthless, because you can't find a job. That you can't support a family. And then post a diatribe about some firearms, where that came from who knows?

All I can say is good luck with any employment you DO find..
