And you better believe that if i'm walking across a truck stop or terminal parking lot, and i see a screw/nail whatever. i'll pick it up all the time. I was at our Gary terminal, i saw a nice shiny bolt, looked more like a bolt out of a door hinge, and then later saw a metal strip that looked like it came off a mudflap. I picked both them up, sat them on top of a barrel next to the shop. Obviously a nice shiny bolt just came off a truck that was 'fixed'.

Oh yeah, I had a drop and hook Costco load. The trailer I picked up was missing a lower door seal on the LH side door. Seeing how this trailer was going with me to my next load.....a Campbells Soup load (that requires watertight, hole-less trailers) I asked for the location of an MT trailer. I had just fueled in Toledo, OH, and some genius planner wants me to go back clear to cleveland (where i just left) to swap out trailers. I asked if that was the closest place. They obviously did not update my location, as Cleveland was 120 miles away, and our Detroit terminal was 45 mi away. So i headed there. Not only was it shorter on the miles, it saved Swift from forking out extra $$ for tolls, the money to send someone to fix the trailer (doubt it would have been fixed) the extra mileage on the truck, the wear and tear on brakes and transmission, NOT TO MENTION i took it to a terminal where the shop could fix it, rather than outsourcing it, which would cost MORE money than doing it in a terminal.

yeah...i'm such a bad driver. Guess i'll do what the industry standard is.....leave the problem for the next guy.

Well at least you put all the info in to tell the whole story! All I had to do was get your blood up! LOL, And actually did a good job while P.O.ed! Still to even save having to go into the yard if it's not leaking that tire could actually last the full 15000 -200000 miles! Leaving the object in will make it go bad faster! Just like those who flick the rocks out of the threads.

Now THAT is the scary part! It's already here and it's criminal of these guys and gals who's dropping it! There are very few drop yards where there is not SOME KIND of a mobile repair shop out there! If your company needs to knows of a trailer in need of repairs ESPECIALLY a reefer use that quailcomm or call them and let them know so it can be fixed before I get there or it could be you later! Laugh but I've seen it happen!I dropped a trailer and picked it up the next week but the tire I had fixed was flat! But, hey, just think Murphys Law and you'll understand that if you keep dropping bad trailers you'll wind up picking up your own laziness!

Off subject but i read your post is sound like you had your son on the road with you what is swifts policy on people in the truck with you. I go for orientation on the 15th.

A few yearsback while driving for good old Swift,I was put on a bus in Nashville to Harrisburgh,PA.Man what an experience.Most people who ride the busses have no idea what a shower or a bath is all about.Talk about BO,it was terrible.And there was no way to get away from it.Then Nashville to Louisville,and change drivers,next Louisville to Cinncinatti,the change busses.Then Cinncinatti to Columbus and change busses again.Then on to Pittsburgh and once again change busses.Finally on to the PA turnpike and on to Harrisburgh.Never again.

I'm just trying to understand this mans story to me is sounded like he had his son with him in the truck, i was told that was a no no with swift, also if you take the time to read the thread header you will see this man told a story and askes a ?. you thanked road dog for bringing the thread to topic................ he told a story he dident even answer his ? I claimed i was off topic due to the fact that my reply didnt answere his ?. in no way was i saying that my ? had nothing to do with the topic at hand all im sayin is i just asked a ? to understand the story better the same thing u did. life is to short to go thru it being a ### get over yourself.

Your son has to be a certain age to be allowed in the truck. I can't remember what the age exactly is, but I could get it if no one finds it before I'm back on the site. You just have to fill out additional paperwork for a rider.

When i worked there 10 years ago, the minimum age i think was 15 or 16. Hope that helps. As far as putting a 13yr old on the bus? No way in hades would i do it. That is just asking for trouble. You could put em on Southwest Airlines, and the flight attendents would make sure they got there ok. Hope that helped you. If not, sorry.
