Millis Transfer

Any thoughts on Millis Transfer. I have not seen too many people unhappy with them. Is this a fluke?

If you haven't read or heard to much about them keep it at that. If it's on here than it's surely not a good company to work for. Hahahaha

Dragon, I actually got my training through Millis 10 years ago. One of the owners is Mike Millis. Very good, straight forward guy. But I will tell you, that if you are one of those guys who likes to run a 700 mile run, then take a day off, then Millis isnt for you. When you sign on with them, be prepared to run like a scalded dog! They can and will run you straight into the ground. You need to be prepared to run at least 3500+ miles a week. At least, they used to be that way. Maybe slowed down a little due to economy and new dot rules, but sitting is not something Millis likes to do. I rate them an 8 on the scale.

You will have to attend their school or come up with 1 year OTR. I can graduate from my school (8 weeks) then still have to attend their 3 week school.

Make the phone call and see what they tell you. I did.

Having too much training it's all that bad is it? If your willing to put in the time I am sure from what I have looked up, you will be happy as long as your willing to work hard and biittcch less.

Well I have been out of work since July and in debt. Also haven't been receiving unemployment. I would go further into debt going to their school. Time for me to get trucking!

If you can get into their school? Do it. The government is paying for my school in my state.

Yup-
The last two 'new' drivers I spoke to were seeing 2200-2500 miles a week except on the weeks they took home time (obviously).

Millis approved my application but there is no more orientation in WI until 2010.
Last class is 11/2 and I was not free to attend. When the time is right and there is another class in WI, I can consider it. Living in WI and being so close to the training facility, it would be a waste to travel to OH for class.

I am also considering Roehl, simply because I have a few friends that work there and it's not all 'doom and gloom' like some people claim. But I think Millis, being smaller has advantages. One is very hard pressed to find a single negative thing out there on this company. They also have no trucks older than 3yrs and were getting 2010s delivered when I spoke with a driver around 10/5 ..

The only thing that sucks is that if you attend school (any school) and do not have 1yr OTR - you must attend their school at an additional cost of course. That can add up.

The emails I have exchanged with Mike, do indicate he is a straight up guy and says it like it is. Thats hard to find nowadays with people...

Ok, I have been corrected. It can be a pain in the butt to attend to much training. : )
I was looking into Roehl, my self. If you find anything else out about them let me know, if you remember.

It seems (as usual) each company has good and bad and some have more of one than the other - but thats the case anywhere...

I am meeting with Roehl Tuesday to tour the facility and meet the recruiter and hopefully a trainer face to face. I like this company
but its a lot larger than Millis..thats not usually a good thing I guess.

I'm initially from NY, so I don't trust people until they give me a reason to trust them. I think not trusting recruiters should be a given.

Too many people look online and fill out the app and start w/o really thinking this over. Maybe everyone can't visit a company I suppose but given the fact that 97 out of 100 people that start this are gone within 1yr, I think you need to read and learn as much as you can before you get into this and into any more debt.

I already got my CDL back in 92 and never really used it. So I need to go through training all over again (I have no issues with that) but to give up my supposedly 'stable' job to pursue this dream of mine requires thought and lots of it....I have started and posted many things about this and virtually not one positive answer from anyone out there.
