Hi Professional Drivers. I have been reading all the posts good/bad for 2 months now. I am headed to Salt Lake City. If you have any questions about the current training In Salt Lake I will try my best to keep everyone posted. I have studied and taken the practice -General Knowledge, -Airbrakes, & Combination Vehicle practice exams and at first scored in the 70% range but after a strong month of studying I am scoring in the 90% range. I have seen posts on here about how fast they move you through the program, so i figured I better have the basics down so I wont be crammin late at night. Some good practice CDL sites are (CRST CDl Practice exams) there are alot on this site. Thanks for all the posting I have learned alot. Some folks on here actually have given there trials/tribulations of the various Trucking programs (o/o, Teams etc..) I have learned the dispatcher and DM are only going to meet you half way if even they go that far. As far as the recruiters are concerned I believe you need to do your own "DD" (Due Diligence). I went to Cr Englands website and compared it to 10 other trucking companys. And haven't seen much a difference for someone with little or no training. I am not putting all of my dreams on this one stint. I have a few back-up plans if something goes array. I understand I could be waiting for a truck/trainer for up to a month after graduating or if I get one at all. Atleast I will have my CDL. There are 3 or 4 other companies that will allow you to go through there Orientation as a newbie with a CDL. Either way I figure I will be driving 400-600 miles a day (teaching my self how to "Float" through the gears) while my trainer is sleeping through the night & getting $60 bucks a day (not including the taxes, school tuition subtractions). So I figure 4-5 months with little/minimal pay. I have no bills or home payments & probably wont have the usual gripes about having to pay child support/wife/bills or how the Grinch stole X-mas etc.... I also understand based on the posts on here if you decide to quit you will have to leave the truck in SLC or get abandonment/late load on your DAC. As far as the Instructors/Instruction (not teaching you/you teaching yourself/students teaching themselves with little or no help from instructors) goes, you can go to any community college or class and find out that it will be no different there, dry instruction or no instruction at all, just books.. I also understand that you earn a day off every week and normally can take them at the end of a 3 or 4 week run, but the chances of the logistics to get you home without putting your team member out of his area and not being enroute for the next pick-up load, the chances are slim to none that I will be getting home monthly, I figure I will just take time off where its convenient for the company and take in some sightseeing or just keep runnin. I have already told my friends/family dont expect to see me for about 5 or 6 months. I have also read about some folks trying to predict or get guaranteed routes close or near there hometown and than having it all come tumbling down. I dont think I have a good attitude, its just my work ethic-thinking. I am budgeting $100 a week to live off while in school. I understand there is a $50 admin fee & $40 DMV permit fee & $35 physical fee (That can be deducted on your first paycheck). I saw a post on here that someone had to have their family send them an extra $1200 to live off, just for school (they probably didnt like the hotel-so they rented their own room somewhere) but if you dont like a junky/smelly room with 8 other guys how in the world are you going to make it with a smokin/smelly/team member...?My concern is how long I can run without getting burnt out. I welcome any comments good/bad as I know I shall get more bad than good. I hear they use 9 & 10 speed transmissions, can anyone tell me there experiences with these speeds.??:) (the title. "Newbie earns $80,000" used to attract attention)

next thing we all know is that you'll become a lease-operator. then you'll come here posting about how little money you're taking home, and that you're contemplating setting up shop underneath a local freeway overpass.

Gods speed to you, please continue to have an open mind and come back here and let us know how it is going. IF you don't have no bills I don't see why you can't stay a year with them. You are getting into trucking at a good time of year. It is seasonally slow right now by the time you get your own truck it will be picking back up

There's about a 50% chance that you'll be able to afford that...

smallhauls1: Love your attitude. I am a small, skinny runt (5'10") and nobody thought I'd make it through Navy SEAL training. Well, I did, and I am. You will certainly receive your fair share of #### from others, as well as management. Like a duck, dude, let it roll off your back. Keep it simple, keep it legal, and keep it real, and all else will follow along like the little ducklings. Proud of ya, and I hope you do well. BTY: "Their" belongs to them, and "there" is over yonder. I can't help myself, I used to be a school teacher. I truly wish you the best and know that the good guys will be praying for you, cause we all need for you to be a "good" truck driver, then we all can be safe. Peace, Scott
