I hear you there. I did as well, at about 19, and about 130 miles south of you. . .

I wasn't going to post this, and then thought, "why shouldn't I."

I was 19 years old and about a week away from my (first) wedding. The guy who was going to be my best man was riding a bicycle and hit by a car.

His folks called me, and I met them at the hospital. We spent several hours on pins and needles, in the waiting room by the operating room. A few minutes after 10 PM, I felt, and I do mean FELT him pass. It was like he brushed by me, and I knew he was gone. About a half hour later, the doctor came in and broke the news to the family. But it was not news to me.

This was the first, and (so far anyway,) strongest brush with something beyond common understanding that I have had.

However, over many years as a copper, I had many "gut feelings" that I am quite sure kept me alive. Most people actually do have these though, and I'm not sure if it is some type of supernatural phenomena
or some subconscious reading of a given situation.

If I want to sleep for the next month I can't post my eeriest supernatural moment, but I can post a couple that qualify as hmmmmmmmmmm.

My Mom's mom died Easter Sunday 1977, her Dad died just before Christmas 1978. Two of my mom's sisters never married and always lived at home. In 1990 they sold the family home and bought a different home a few miles away. March 1998 the one sister died following a battle with cancer. About 4 months later, the other sister was getting the mail, in the stack of mail was a letter addressed to the sister who had just died, her mother and father. The mail all came to the house my Aunt was living in, a house that her parents had never lived in or knew about. They had not received mail for the deceased parents in about 10 yrs. even at the old house, and these were not forwarded items either. My Aunt thinks that this was their way of letting her know they were all together.

Nov. 1st, 2003 my Mom died following knee replacement surgery. The day we got home from the funeral (we live in Colo. but had her buried on a family plot in Ohio), we had a finch show up. Now we've got several feeders in the backyard and feed them regularly. But this was a little house finch that showed up on our front porch. It perched on one of the supports for the porch roof. During the day when we were gone, it was gone, but every night it showed up about the time I would get home from work. My wife usually comes home first and it wouldn't be there, but when I got home it would be. It would sit on the same post every night, it wasn't tame, but you could get your hand within a few inches of it before it would fly off. It lived there for almost 4 months, nothing startled it, if my dog and I were out front, it would sit on a tree branch or the fence and watch us, on a couple of occasions I saw it on the ground near our dog watching her. One afternoon I was working on my pickup and looked up and it was sitting on a tree branch that overhung my pickup watching me. When I noticed it, I started talking to it and it came down and sat on the roof of my pickup. Then just as suddenly it was gone. We've kind of suggested that maybe it was her watching over me until it was time for her to go on.

My Dad had a similar exp., my parents had a little yorkie that they got in 1998. It was my Mom's shadow and constant companion. My mom had a chair she sat in every night, and the dog would climb up and sleep on the back of the chair. After she died, it became his chair. On several occasions after she died, my Dad would come in the living room and see the dog on the back of the chair staring at the wall, like he was staring at something in particular, his ears perked up and head turning, like someone was talking to him and he was listening to them. Often times when this would happen, dad said the dog wouldn't even acknowledge him being in the room. On a couple of occasions, he would start barking at whatever he was seeing, it wasn't a mean bark, but rather a playful, excited to see someone kind of bark.

    The eye of the storm....

The night my grandmother passed from this life, my cousin's car broke down in Paso Robles... I could not very well leave her stranded there, so I went to get her. By myself. I live in Visalia, and it is nomally about a 3 hour trip. Normally I would not have made this trip alone. But that night, I did. Well, sort of.

Somehow, I made that trip in just under 2 hours. But every time I looked at the speedometer it said I was doing 60mph. There are parts of that trip I cannot recall making. Several vital spots that I do not remember seeing that night...

The whole way day there, I kept hearing this voice, just behind my right shoulder, whispering, "We've got to hurry! We're running out of time!"

On the way back, my cousin and I both heard it!

And then, just as we came across the Kings-Tulare County line, it stopped. And in that same instant we both felt her leave...

The race was over, and we had lost.

We didn't believe it was that wierd until later.. for some reason, my cousin noted the time: 11:05 pm.. her time of death? 11:03.

The next morning, her husband and my husband took off to go retrieve her car... in the same car I had driven the night before. They didn't even make it out of town before the front end seized up, and sent them sliding off the side of the road.

The rotor had welded to the spindle.

I don't have many at least not when awake but I do remember one dream I had when I recently started driving OTR. A little back story. My grandma (moms mom) passed away new years day of 09 from cancer. In the dream I woke up in the sleeper and sat up looking through the sleeper out through the windshield and out into the parking lot and saw her standing their smiling. Now I'm not sure if this is just in my mind or not but it was almost a full year after she passed away that it happened.
