My first scary moment happened on a Mack CH with a 45' empty container on bumpy highway(all of them are >_>) here in Puerto Rico at 11pm. There a bridge where about months ago a T600 tanker had crashed an exploded which this made the bridge's I-beams melt. So they been fixing the bridge and to not stop traffic on that part of highway, DOT decided to divide highway so they could fix lane by lane the bridge and made lanes using the service lane and one of the incoming lanes for all eastbound traffic, and same for westbound traffic all of this divided by concrete dividers which idiots did not measure width and were size of a compact car and poorly lighted. And i was bound for them going at 50mph so at last minute had to take left lane which used westbound lane. That was scary as hell!!

my pops has had lots, about 10 or 12 years ago give or take parks his Mack CH in front of our house which is on a hill to pick me up to go on a job. In minutes the truck goes in gear and starts slowly creaping to a small wall, bounces back and starts goin down hill with my pops chasing after it. Not much damage done but something anyone would'nt want to face.

Then there was a time he was hauling a flatbed downhill to the center of PR in his Mack R and drivers here are wacko, no respect for truckers and seems some rich guy on a Mercedes cuts off a man on a lil '86 Corolla and so the Corolla dude has no choice to change lanes to his right lil did he know he slammed hooked under the flabed that my pops was hauling which he was not aware off. My pops thought he just popped a tire till he looks on mirror and sees the extra cargo. Guy only suffered a broken leg. A lil more time of not noticing and he could had gone under the tires.

only closing in on my second year down but the trip I'm on right now has had the most close calls to date. Knoxville a 4 wheeler decided she wanted the lane I was merging into more than me so I had to jerk the wheel back to avoid that one. Did I mention Knoxville sucks? Today I had a blue wrapper bear blow through the yield on the off ramp and almost hit my load (oversize) as I was stuck in the right lane and couldnt let them in.

Scariest moment? Your truck starts sliding down a hill, it's raining so its slick, a school bus is stopped at the bottom. Thank you loud air horns! Moved just in time, my 78,000 pound truck wasn't gonna stop.

I picked up a load of sod out of south Florida and like normal I only strapped every other pallet, I had done this for a while now, basically I was lazy! Anyway, after a long 3 hour ride back to the yard I stopped and picked up my moffet and headed for my delivery which was in an area I knew very well, delivered there atleast weekly, as you pull in to the subdivision there is a mile or so of good road then there is a pretty hard section of S curves which I had navigated a dozen times at the posted speed limit, or higher, well today things were different and as I was exiting the curve my load shifted and my drivers side trailer tires were a good 6 inches off the ground. Thank god I steered out of a rollover but I lost two stacked pallets of sod off of my trailer and had to explain to my supervisor what had happened.

The pallets were brand new and picked up out of a flooded sod field and just slid like they were on glass, luckily I didn't hit anyone or anything and had the mess cleaned up within the hour. Moral of the story, DON'T GET LAZY, and no matter how well you think you know the road it can come up and bite you in the butt real quick. I never left a field without every pallet strapped after that day and never ran those curves above the posted speed again.

Jan. 2012 heading east off Mt Hood.... dry roads nice day. As I was heading down the mountain I ran into some fog. No big deal... just slow down. a little farther and it was clear and the road opened up to 4 lane with a medium. Flat with clear sky and sunshine. On the other side of the road there was a car roll over, 2 cops, fire truck, and ambiance. The road goes back to a 2 lane and descends. No shoulders and steep banks. then the fog is back. I slow to about 40 or less (empty 48' flat) and all of a sudden there is a fire/rescue truck in my lane passing a pickup! There is no where for me to go! I slam on the breaks and the pickup takes the ditch, fire truck missis me by milometers! As I said there were no shoulders and high banks so I could not stop to see if the pickup was ok. What I do know for sure is the driver of that pickup saved lives that day.
