Home for the night, which is a pleasant surprise. The more flyash/kiln dust I haul the more I'm learning to despise, dislike and down right hate it. Nasty stuff!! Had a bunch stick in the doghouse and had to sweep it out. It's going to be a miracle if I don't get some side-effects, like death. Hard as you know what to breath when sweeping it. It gets all over you, and you must shower aggressively to get it off. I stopped in Great Bend and washed my trailer out. I looked like I played in the mud after that. Thank God I got to come home, no place to shower with the route we must take hauling this stuff.
After dumping I was sent to Lyons to load salt. First dispatch message didn't say to where, finally it was to KDOT in Topeka. I thought oh crap, back to St. Marys and Hays. The superintendent of the construction company told me they have 6,000 tons ordered for the project. It's too far to make more than one load a day. Our company will not commit more than 4 or 5 trucks. So 27 ton X 5 = 135 tons a day. So if they want 6k tons, it would take us 45 days to get it there.
Sometime within the next week or two I'll be getting another used-up truck. Don't mind getting the hand-me-downs, except this one. It's been breaking down regularly. It has a re-gen system, and screws up all the time. So I guess the boss is happy with the truck being down, not making but costing him money. He should have traded it along with the rest of those junkers. But, nooooo, lets give it me. Got news for the boss, it starts screwing up on me, I won't do as the current driver does, and try and gimp the thing at 30mph for 50 or 100 miles to a shop. It's getting parked on the shoulder, and either a hook comes for it, or my wife comes for me!!
Well I'm loading rock in the morning for Mac again. From there, I'm hoping it's not back to Hays.Last edited: Jun 4, 2013

That sounds like some really nasty stuff, Eaton. Do you wear a mask of any type when sweeping to help keep from breathing some of it in? Dust is one thing that is almost guaranteed to give me a bout of bronchitis. We've done a couple of home improvement projects in the past with a lot of sawing, and both times I ended up sicker than a puppy dog. You take care of yourself, and good luck with the truck.
One of my drivers has a daycab, and they keep giving him crap ones that should be sent to the auction. He's been here 17 years, and guys that are just starting on the intermodal side are getting brand spanking new ones and most of them haven't been there half as long as him. I can understand his being upset.
Heading out the door soon. Going in a bit early and taking short lunches this week since the boss is gone. Yesterday went way too smooth, I can only guess what the remainder of the week will bring. It's driver appreciation week, so I got left in charge of bringing in the sandwiches for lunch. It's kind of nice to get a short break from the office to run get the food.
Otter, you seem like the type of driver that would be lots of fun to have in the office for a while. We have a couple that I enjoy coming in to visit for a while. They keep the mood light and get ya laughing.
Be safe and have fun.otherhalftw Thanks this. -

My GPS says I can not get to this thread from the original one.
Oh, and I'm at Affiliated Foods in Norfolk, NE for what appears to be the forseeable future. Too many items, not enough floor space.
Yippee.Last edited: Jun 5, 2013
