    Hi forum,

Setting up this thread so my CDL school classmates and I can keep track of each other as we start and progress through our driving careers. We graduated Dec 18, 2014. I hope the site admins will indulge me and allow this thread. Of course, anyone is welcome to participate.

We had a diverse group, being in South Florida. We had students from Haiti, Jamaica and the US, and we even had a female. I enjoyed the class quite a bit.

My name is Bill. I'll let the others decide whether or not they want to post their names.

I'll kick it off...Still looking for first job. Been applying to a lot of companies. Have orientation dates for a couple of companies, but still applying, trying to find the best job for my situation. Have expanded search to other parts of the country, as South Florida is pretty limited for new driver opportunities.

The top spot on my list for first job changes almost every day. But right now it is Schneider Tanker, working out of Houston TX. Why? I want to specialize in certain sectors. Tanker seems more interesting than Van. Tanker seems to pay better. Tanker skills can be used in the oilfield, which I may want to do in the future. Schneider accepts CDL grads. Houston is easy to fly out of for time off in So. Fla.

    So that's where I am. C'mon you guys...who's next?

EDIT: I have to comment on the invaluable resource that The Truckers Report has been for me...researching companies, asking questions, etc. There are so many industry veterans on here that are willing to share their knowledge, and I appreciate it very much. Thanks TTR!

Glad to see you set up the thread Bill.

I'm still looking at orientation with Werner on December 29. What you say about Schneider is interesting, since tanker is what I've always wanted to haul. I may just call up and tell them I moved to SAT and see if I can get on that gig. If not, and you end up with Schneider out of Houston, let me know.

Although, truth be told, if what Omar posted is half way true, FBE may be an option after all.

    Let's see who's next.

    Hi everyone,

I am Miguel a former class mate of Bill. Thanks for doing this Bill. I certainly enjoyed your jokes. I hope one of these days when I pull up my truck to park it might just be beside you or anyone from the class for that matter. It was a long few weeks but I am pleased with the company I had. The diversity of the class surpassed nationality to include different career backgrounds (from a Pilot to a Hairdresser). Pretty cool.

Not quite sure where I am heading yet in trucking. I see there are many options in this field and it makes it a bit more difficult to make a decision. I am pretty sure I will make one by early January though. I would appreciate the advice of some seasoned drivers in make an educated decision. Thanks all.
