It was a close one today. I was driving up I-95 northbound in South Carolina in clear weather when an older lady almost drove right under my trailer just forward of the rear wheels. I was just turning my head back to the left after checking my right side through the mirror when I see this car moving at about 70 mph at the rear of my trailer. Since the car was going fast, in about a second it was at the center of my trailer (car in the fast lane and me going 63 mph) she quickly jerked to the left (like when you grab for something) and then she turned her steering wheel to the right to avoid going off the road to her left and then came at me.

I felt something could happen, so as I saw she was going to spin the wheel in my direction I quickly went to the right and went into the breakdown lane and sure enough she came way over into my lane and only turned back to the left about 2 inches from the center of my trailer before hitting me. I couldn't believe she didn't make contact!

If I hadn't just turned my head and saw her and moved to the right, she would have run right under my trailer and my wheels would have rolled right over her. Or, I could have just caught the front of her car and I could have flipped over on my side. Either way, it was a close one. Whew!

Glad everyone is ok and you were paying attention and saved not only yourself but the other drivers around you as well.

I often get someone going for a near miss when merging, strangely enough, no matter if I'm bottoming out the governor, and changing lanes at the instant the other one's open, that someone just has to try to get around from behind before I get there, accelerating to 70-80, then either slamming on their brakes when I'm there first or swerving into the next lane over, just to go ahead and swerve in front of me, then back into the lane that was ending, apparently to take that exit in the first place, because they couldn't let a truck beat them there.

Or it's the opposite, when after I merge they go halfway into the next exit and swerve into my lane to get in front, then brake, of course, or if I'm behind a car or line of cars that are merging, they go 45 until the last second and finally speed up. Obviously it's about them being in someone's way either way. Like musical chairs, except everyone forgot we were sitting down already.
