What if DM /dispatchers were paid and treated the same as Truck Drivers?

Yes, dispatchers are people too, as are drivers and everyone connected with the company or industry. Since I wasn't directly involved with your problem concerning your dispatcher or whatever the title was I don't know all of the facts. I do have this question though... When you realized that you were having a serious problem with this person, could you have spoken with someone else a little higher? Now, my intent isn't to start any kind of battle or peeing contest here but I'm always curious why people don't go to the next person or the dispatcher's supervisor? Also, was it the dispatcher holding freight back from you or was that happening to everyone? No matter what anyone might want to believe the economy is playing havoc with freight which as you know takes away miles and revenue for the driver along with the company's bottom line.
Contrary to popular believe, operations and office people don't make the big bucks that people think they do. Yes, they do get to go home every night, but they chose their jobs just as you did yours. There are companies who do base a bonus on the productivity of the drivers but not all companies.
The really sad thing is there are a lot of operations people and drivers who really don't like their jobs and that makes it tough for everyone involved. I have always thought that ops people should go on a trip with a driver and drivers should sit in operations for a time to see what goes on. I can tell you that I've done both so I can be pretty objective about both sides. I ate more cold meals and drank more cold coffee when I was in operations than I ever did in my life. Now, sales... No cold meals there! LOL.
Take care and I sincerely hope that things are going better for you with your dispatchers.

Last company I drove for if the driver got over 10K miles in a month 8k if on the Regional board the Dispatcher got a 1/4 cent for every mile that the truck went during that month as a bounus for that truck. For the Teams it was 20K a month. I can tell you this mine was normally collecting hers by the end of the 3 week of the month. When you are doing on avarage 3700 miles a week everyweek or more sometimes. You make your dispatcher a very happy person.

I didn't read the whole thread so this may have been covered...but,

Driver managers or fleet managers don't dispatch the loads to the drivers...where I work that is done by the CSR (Customer service reps), they send the load to the driver or to the fleet manager and tell the fleet manager who to send it to.

Many people go off on fleet managers or driver managers when they actually have no say in the matter...they are simply a "middle man" (or woman).

Fleet and driver managers are...hate to say it...babysitters more or less (most of the time). It is there job to communicate with the CSR's and the drivers. They simply free up the CSR's so they can do their job without interruption from pissed off drivers.

We were discussing the people who dispatch or give or assign the loads and hopefully keep the driver moving. Doesn't matter what the title is, lol. :biggrin_25525: Seems like every company has a different name for that person.

My point was that the person we commonly call our "dispatcher" doesn't do any dispatching...most large companies with Qualcomms are setup the same way even if the job titles are different. Drivers rarely...if ever...speak to the person doing the dispatching at these companies.
