I have only seen that once, a foggy morning in Kentucky last spring but I was just mind boggled.

I was the only other thing on the interstate at the moment and I was cruising in the slow lane but I just kinda watched in awe as this guy rolled past me going backwards down the hammer lane.

    Some peoples kids...................

It happens all the time. I have stopped numerous older folks who was on their way out of the rest area. They had stopped at the rest area and headed out in the wrond direction.

There was fa fatal accident just north of San Antonio Tx on I-35 where this same thing happened, they left the rest area going in the wrong direction.

BUT..... not meaning to be cruel or sounding like an *^#( BUT.....if you were driving your truck faster than 55mph, you are at fault. You are a PROFESSIONAL DRIVER. You get PAID to drive. Even though this drunk idiot was on the wrong side of the road........you are responsible because you was breaking the law.

    Be safe.

This is straight from the CA DMV website.

    "Maximum Speed Limit

The maximum speed limit on most California highways is 65 mph. You may drive 70 mph where posted. Unless otherwise posted, the maximum speed limit is 55 mph on two-lane undivided highways and for vehicles towing trailers.
Other speed limit signs are posted for the type of roads and traffic in each area. All speed limits are based on ideal driving conditions. Construction zones usually have reduced speed zones.
Driving faster than the posted speed limit or driving faster than safe for current conditions on any road is dangerous and illegal. High speed increases your stopping distance. The faster you go, the less time you have to avoid a hazard or collision. The force of a 60 mph crash is not just twice as great as a 30 mph crash; it's four times as great!"

i gotta jump in on this... i will tell you i dont drive 55 in california...i dont believe in split speed limits for safety reasons... second if you have ever driven I-15 between barstow and Las Vegas ill let you in on a little secret the avg 4 wheeler speed in that section is 88 mph..they did a study 4 yrs ago and 2 out of 10 cars was acutaly going the 70 mph speed limit...the rest were 85 and above with a couple at over 100 mph...ill stay up with traffic and take my chances but in 40 yrs i havent gotten a ticket yet or had an accident but thats not to say i havent come close..

This section does not apply to commercial vehicles. The maximum speed limit for all commercial vehicles on any freeway in California is 55mph. And yes, the OP would have been found partially at fault if an accident would have occurred. The plaintiff's attorney would have merely pointed out the fact that had not the OP been committing a major speeding violation at the time, that he/she may have had time to notice the oncoming vehicle and avoid the accident. This would be a slam dunk against the OP's insurance company as they always go for the deep pockets.

That's interesting, I'll have to show it to my brother, who has worked out of the Barstow CHP office for over 20 years..I'm sure he will get a kick out of it. And I live along that stretch of I-15, so it's no "secret".. So, just because everyone else drives like a moron, that gives you the right to speed too..? Your luck will run out eventually.

If the S-10 was doing 60, and the rig 70... that's a relative impact speed of 130. If he had been at 55 in the rig, the impact speed would have been 115... In either case, there'd be no driver standing before a lawyer. They'd be in the coroners office... BOTH of them.

Glad you made it without anything but some questionable laundry...
