I saw it today.........it was another company. Driver backed up, got out to look and didn't set his brakes. He watched it roll down into a fence. A yardgoat was close and jumped out and ran to climb in and stop the truck. The driver said " I put it in neutral, not it a gear, it shouldn't have rolled.
stupidest thing u have done or seen a rookie do?

Not sure I would have been as brave as the yard goat on that one...depends upon how fast the rig was moving.
I don't feel so bad now, though. Especially knowing that the driver figured he was safe leaving the truck in neutral. -
How did someone like that pass ANY testing??? Anyway, tarping in a hurry, I somehow tried to "quick hook" a snubber and it let go...the hook hitting me directly in the left eye.
This actually knocked me out for a few seconds. I came to kneeling on the VERY hot pavement staring with one eye at the trailer wheel hub.
Miracle I can still see. -

This was kinda stupid if you ask me. I was waiting to make a left turn and a daycab was comming from the opposite direction and was making a right turn at the same time a car was in the left lane waiting to turn left and the driver in the daycab as he was making the turn i guess he hit the gas on accident and just smashed the car. I knew it was going to be a little while so i just went out of the left lane kept going on streight and made the next left.

Very embarassing...Sam Hell Thanks this. -
Ive done it 2-3 times were I park the truck in a gravel lot or something where theres holes that the trucks rolls into and I shut the truck off and keep my foot on the brake not thinking I dont pull the brakes and do my log. Get side tracked take my foot off the brake and the truck dont move so I jump in the bunk and cant figure out why the webasto dont work. Say screw it so I decide to idle the truck but now I couldnt figure out why it wouldnt high idle. Couple min later it hits me that i never pulled the tractor brakes.

lets see, the stupidest thing I have done in recent memory was about6 to 8 months ago, I was still working in the oilfield and was at the yard. another driver had a load going out and had to go do some personal business so me and the boss were gonna be nice and load his truck
the boss was inside the warehouse getting the load together and I pulled his truck forward and parked it right behind mine and jumped out to lower the trailer ramps and load the forklift, when I started to back the forklift onto the trailer, the whole truck rolled forward and into the back of my trailer...I had forgotten to set the parking brake
I felt like a comlete idiot, 14 years of driving and 8 in the oilfiled and I pull this completly bone-headed stunt
suprisingly there was no repercussions
the boss simply said "it sucks but its not like you do stupid $#!* every day" -
Let's see...stupid things I have seen a rookie do. That rookie would be me. I think the dumbest thing I have done so far would be ripping 3 huge holes in the top of an mt trailer in Chicago passing under the commuter train bridges... Here's an idea. The clearance is only 13' 2", but I never saw any signs stating that...had no map of the low clearance bridges in Chicago. Didn't know what to do, so I just went ahead and did it anyway. No one got hurt and the only damage was to the trailer.
Oh, and I get lost a lot.
Did I mention that I am the U-turn king? You should see the cab extensions on the driver side of my truck.
I don't think I should say any more, it might come back to haunt me.charlie's angel and thelastrebel Thank this. -
this is probably just one of the dumbest things ive ever done. on 4/29 i got another year older, on 4/30 i passed the cdl exam and on 5/1 i bought a 1994 peterbilt fixer-upper-work-in progress truck. what was i thinking of??? LMAO also shows you that just being another year older didnt make me any smarter...
