Your FM/DM/Dispatcher can make or break you. That being said if some of them would have the common decency to say "this sucks, but it's what I have available in order to get you out of there" I think drivers would be more understanding of "a bad load". Alot of drivers are whiny, and even the good drivers if you catch them on the wrong day at the wrong time can seem that way. Face it, both sides could do alot better job of working together.

The entire idea of needing to drive to be a dispatcher is ludicrous.

I never made a milker feed, or herd health milk, or a feeder book.

If a dispatcher has 50+ trucks and 5 of them can not seem to get their assigned loads done chances are those five should find another career. Why does everyone think you need some kind of empathy to understand someone else's job.

The myth of walking in someone's shoes spoon fed drivel no doubt.

The former drivers that are dispatchers are usually harder on their drivers than a non driver. I believe this occurs because they only remember the good times out there when the look back at it. Kinda like how that ex-girlfriend was so great, and super hot. There typically is a reason they're an ex.

That's the problem. Those 5 won't quit (find another career), they will need constant attention and babying by the DM to keep upper bosses from coming down on the DM about why some of the numbers suck. If all of the non-productive drivers would quit (and not get re-hired down the street with the next carrier), then everyone would be happy, remaining drivers and DM's. So, there are 150 trucks sitting along the fence somewhere gathering dust, beats having 150 trucks running 1000 miles week, getting abused and trashed by unhappy drivers, spreading hatred towards the company on the docks and over the airwaves, and pissing off valuable, hard-to-find customers who pay well.

Many of the drivers in question b##ch about no miles, then will also turn around and b##ch and gripe when their asked to they're asked to squeeze out a few more hours to try and make on-time delivery of another 1,400 mile load that week. i.e. they will complain and gripe, regardless.

Yeah I could see a former driver saying "We used to do that turn three times a week back in the day". Forgetting that was a good week when everything went as planned and the far more likley average was two and a half.

Fire them. If I have to pay a babysitter or a cheerleader I do not need you. I get the cheerleading crud here. Do not need it, fortunately John knows this about me and skips the weekly or monthly thank you calls for me.

I believe in a simple system. I do my job, John does his, Charles and Kim do theirs...........
Everyone makes some money, the company stays strong, I stay less annoyed at the rah rah crap.

Yeah I guess there is the type that needs positive reinforcement. I'll never understand them, but I know they exist. I would much rather the thanks comes in others performing to the level I do.

I have fun when Im home with my kids hanging all over me. I'd call this job interesting, I'd call it challenging, sometimes even rewarding. Fun is not something I would think to describe it as . I'm not saying I dislike it. I do get a certain satisfaction out of beating my delivery windows and tarping something like a Christmas present. As to why I do it? Well, I've got a lot of kids and a wife at home I need to take care of. If I could make the money I'm making out here back home, well then we wouldn't be having this conversation. :)

If you only have 5 out of 50 drivers that suck you are probably well above the game. This is an extremely tough profession which probable doesn't need to be said with the high turn over rate across the industry. Most folks are just not too bright whether it be the trucking industry or some other profession (we did elect G. W Bush for two terms). Whether you are a dispatcher or a lowly grunt driver you have to maintain some what of a zen buddhist mentality. You aren't going to rush through D.C. traffic at rush hour. Be at peace with what the situation is presenting on both ends and deal with it accordingly.
