Orientation / Qualification starts Monday (1/9/12) in Gary. Then Hopefully to the Phoenix terminal to meet trainer. I'm a bit apprehensive about meeting the qualifications but will give it my all. Lots to learn and am excited about entering as a flatbedder! Still have to pick western regional or national fleet. I'm also thinking of the 14/7 . Can you be in the 14/7 in both fleets or is that just for national ? Any input to miles in both fleets would be appreciated. I've been following all Roehl posts and just want to say thanks to everyone for all the information.

you can be western regional or national, or 14/7 slip seat out of Phoenix... each is its own fleet
-LLL- Thanks this. -
Best of luck, just always remember to breathe and try to relax when doing the physical part of the qualification

What cold weather gear works best when strapping down and tarping in extreme cold weather. Was thinking of Carhart insulated overalls or are they to bulky?

-LLL- and WhereverIMayRoam Thank this.

But, It's always going to be your hands, feet, head, and neck that you need to watch out for.
Seriously, *Insulated Waterproof Workboots* You can get back in the truck and warm up everything else, then go back to work, but if your boots and socks get soaked, you're dealing with that for hours and hours.-LLL- and WhereverIMayRoam Thank this. -
Thanks for input on insulated bib overalls, think I will go with them. I'm with you on keeping the feet warm as I have a nice pair of insulated work boots that should work well. Well three more days till I fly to Gary for orientation and I sure am ready to get this started. Hope the thin Arizona blood holds up to their weather!

Was wondering if anyone remembers the physical qualification for flatbed. Do you have to be a Superman to do Lat-pulldown, Horizonta Push and Pull exercises? I feel like I'm in good shape (run and work out) guess I'm was just freaking out a little.
-
All of the exercises are on the Roehl website. As far as being hard, nope, but you do have to watch that your heart rate does not exceed what ever level your age should be. So if your in decent shape and don't have any issues with high blood pressure or high pulse rate you should be fine.
-LLL- Thanks this. -
Thanks for putting my mind at ease Tank and also for your service in the Army! I've followed most of your post and they have been helpful. Guess I better go finish packing for 8 am flight out of Tucson. Hear I come Gary, IN!!!
