I know that the sleep apnae is the big buzz of the future, but how do they figure one needs to be tested at Roehl.

I just went thru the Physical for Roehl as I am starting orientation on Monday in Gary. If your neck size is larger than 17 inches then you have to have the sleep study done prior to reporting.:biggrin_25514:

Yeah well then i guess i'd better get to work on my diet then, because at 6 ft and 230 lbs which gives me a BMI of 31, tells me that i need to loose around 40 to 50 lbs to be back into a good range. Dont want anyone to think that i'll fall :biggrin_25518:at the wheel, after 20+ years of driving.

The study that the FMCSA cited in its proposed rule making has been reviewed, and guess what? The study was flawed, they made wrong assumptions, and now it is believed that sleep apnea effects far fewer than they originaly projected. They figured that somewhere in the neighborhood of 80% of truck drivers had at least moderate apnea, now reality says the number is somewhere south of 20%. The problem is that a bunch of companies, and "health management" companies like Compcare that Roehl uses, jumped on the band wagon, and require all this testing, at your expense. I currently have an inquiry in with the Pennsylvania Labor Department, because I believe that if your employer requires a medical screening as a condition of employment, they are required to pay for it... Roehl does not. Now with the revelation that it effects far fewer people than originaly thought, brings into question if they should be doing the screening at all. Why not let a persons Primary Care Doctor handle their health care, rather than the employer. Just a thought.

Hey thanx for the info, think Roehl will get the memo. Yeah i might be 230 at 6 ft but i workout a lot on the week ends plus pull flat bed mostly so i've built up a good bit of muscle mass in my time. So getting my BMI back down to what they call good might never be able to happen anyway. So i guess after we get regulated to death, they can drive the dam trucks them selves.

Yea it doesnt matter what the study says Roehl is known for jumping the gun and implementing things like that.. Its retarded. 17", not everyone is 5'6" 150lbs. Its hard now days to be bigger then a bull rider cause you get discriminated against, such as Roehl and others are doing today. I was hired right before they started that myself. cause I'm 6'6" 340 lbs and my neck is 20" LOL..

Amen brother. If you can go to your primary care physician and he gives you a medical card then as far as I am concerned that is good enough for me.

I was considering Roehl, but not now. Thanks for the informative post paoldschool. Best wishes on your new job.

I dont worry about it now, cause I Drive local and get my card from a urgent care place that isn't sticklers and the company doesn't wont it either.

But I agree, when (if ever i hope) i had to do OTR again, it would be a pain in the butt and limit me where I go. But most the companies that want 3+ yrs dont ask either, But in any case I got in just under the wire for sure!!!
