This just might suck, I have sleep apnea, have a cpap machine, but have not used it in a while, but am now since I am looking for a driver position, I do have a 2 year DOT med card ( got it in Sep.) Just what do I need to do and how long does it take to get the approval from to start working ? I have quit my job as I am starting my school tomorrow (6 weeks ) I am hoping to get to orientation the first part of January.

I just got the call today they said I got it. I said bs getting second opinion. They also had used numbers from a few months ago when I was bigger. I've lost almost 40 pounds since dot physical for them.

My sister has sleep apnea and she said that getting the machine has changed her life. She has a lot more energy now, and sleeps through the whole night, whereas she used to keep getting up several times a night. -
However, I've had a couple trainees that have taken the test and passed. My current trainee has a bit of a snore, not enough to keep me up, and he passed his test. His results even mentioned the snore, but that it didn't register any sleep or airway interruptions to warrant a machine.
i have another friend who falls asleep in front of his computer, snores the roof off the house sooo bad we call him the "Saw Boss" and you can actually hear him stop breathing at times. He totally denies he has it, refuses to test for it. Says its allergies and sinus infection.
If you fail the test, you are more than entitled to a second opinion. But if you don't like the 2nd opinion, you shouldn't ignore it. The wear and tear on the body and vital organs is not just a lack of sleep. it could cause a lot more medical problems down the road as you get older.Zangief, Ultra7 and skyviper73 Thank this. -
I understand all that. My stepfather has it and has had the machine for years. However I never doze I'm front of the tv am not at all tired during the day do not wake up during the night. Believe me if I felt like crap I would not be in denial about. I know the good it's done my father.

I was diagnosed with it back in 2006. I went in for a sleep study myself because my wife said I snored a lot (to the point it was interfering with her sleep) and I felt tired during the day. Turns out I was waking up 90 times per hour (!) or thereabouts. Being on the CPAP machine literally changed my life and I would not give it up for anything.
From Roehl's (or any trucking company's) point of view, they surely don't want any of their drivers nodding off while driving and cracking up one of their trucks, not to mention perhaps injuring or killing someone. And as someone already mentioned, untreated sleep apnea can be deadly -- both the short-term and long-term effects on your body are really bad. My doctor said leaving it untreated was like keeping your brake and gas pedal both pressed down all the time.
I'd also like to second the www.cpap.com is an excellent place to shop for CPAP equipment and supplies -- their prices are way below what your typical local sleep clinic would charge and my insurance company was actually shocked at how much I was saving them by getting my stuff there.Zangief and skyviper73 Thank this. -
