Has anyone ever compiled a list of reasonably safe and legal parking in the greater Chicago area?

Yeah Chicago is far and few between. You either park at the service plazas, Gary or Lake Station, IN truck stops, Monee trucks stops on I-57, the TA up near WI on I-94, Minooka Pilot is a nightmare and there is some on I-55 in the burbs I never stopped at. I usually went in late to Neeleys and hung out there a few hours or I stayed in Monee which isn't far away. There's even a few more truck stops a little farther out but there's no need to stay out that far. Just beat the rush hours.

Service plazas are always jammed for me. I came in 88, 290 and didn't come across a plaza anyhow. Tried a Wally World, but lot said no trucks. So ended up at near CSX. Spotted a couple Malls on route, but couldn't risk it.

Chicagoland malls are a definite no no. When I lived up there I remember a news story of a driver getting his truck towed. It cost the company $5000 to get the truck back.

I did park behind a strip mall one night only because I stayed with the truck. No one bothered me. But after that story I would be real careful.

It must be nice to run the toll roads. We always had to dodge them. Coming from the west I would probably camped at the Rochelle Petro and got up early and finished the trip. There is an Oasis in Dekalb. I've spent a few nights there. It's not crowded like the other ones because it's kind of remote. Once you hit the 290 you are pretty well committed to delivering.

Never stayed overnight in Chicagoland. Always planned to stop outside. There is also the T/A on 90. Depending where you came from on 88, and what time frame you had and what you were doing. Hard to say.
