I am in a 2007 Columbia right now as a lease O/O. I am seriously contemplating turning it in for a 2013 or 2014 Prostar, and am curious if there are any lease O/O out there that are driving one of these and how it is working out for you.
    Thanks in advance.

Not a lease, but I'd say stay away from the maxxforce engine. If you can, if you do go for it, look for one with cummins. Sorry, that's all I got.

Have heard stories about maxforce, especially in the early models. But as an O/O the 7 year unlimited mile warranty on that engine sure sounds nice.

New trucks are always nice, but an 07 Columbia will make you a lot of money as an O/O. As far as MPG they are one of the best. The new prostar also had DEF which can cause problems. It depends on how close you are to paying off you Columbia and how its running. I have however heard good things about the prostar on models that dont have the maxforce

This Columbia is killing me in maint, especially the APU. It is almost impossible to keep it running for more than 3 weeks before it is back in maint.
Also, with the new emissions standards coming out next year in California all 2007 and older model trucks will not be allowed to enter the state. And I am sure other states such as NY and PENNSYLVANIA will be sure to follow soon after. So I can see the future writing on the wall by keeping an 07 model that will have very limited areas that I can drive it.

That warranty may sound nice, and I guess in a way it is nice, but who's gonna pay your truck payment and insurance, living expenses, etc. while you're getting warranty work done. I agree that the Cummins is a better choice. Just my 2 cents worth.

    mp4694330 and Turn&Burn Thank this.

I sure hope your wrong about other states following, but your probably right. any truck that cost tons in maint is a bad truck. Im not saying Columbias are bad, but if yours is costing to much to keep running finding a replacement is not a bad option.

I recomend gettting your number in order b4 making and choices. Find out what it cost you per mile to run the truck. Break out maint, insure, permits etc. Se e what you fuel . mile is. Only then can you make a informed decision.

Plus warranty work generally get put to the back of the cue behind paying customers. Still better then paying out of pocket tho

The numbers I have crunched come out about the same. Lower payment/lower mpg/higher maint costs -VS- higher payments/better mpg/lower maint cost.
I know several O/O with Columbias like mine, just anxious to hear from some O/O that have prostars and see if their numbers add up to the ones I am making now.

I have to cover all those expenses now when my current truck is in the shop, as well as pay the cost of the maint. Atleast with a warranty I wont have the cost of the maint any longer.
However, I am looking at the cummins versions as well. I may actually prefer it.
