I agree, which is why I am leasing a newer truck. Sure paying off an older truck sooner would be nice, but if the thing kills you in maint, then what's the point. As far as getting outside financing, that's fine, but banks will require A+ credit and a very large downpayment. Most can't come up with that. Not only that, but if you decide you want out, then you have to sell the truck. With the lease you can walk away no questions and get your escrows back minus repairs and what not.
Anyone ever completed a ROEHL Lease purchase and got truck title?

You better read the contract. You do not get your security escrow back if you end the lease early. You might want to contact lastrebel for details of what he went through with Roehl. Not that they mistreated him, but they didn't do him any favors either.
When I got this truck it still had plenty of warranty left on it. Only 1 repair was covered by the warranty. Just keep in mind that I spent $10,000 a year over the past 2 years most was while the truck was under warranty and only 1 repair was covered. The radiator went bad at 13 months, it was covered for 12. The starter went out, the dpf had to be changed out, the egr had to be replaced, the air conditioner compressor is about to be replaced for the 4th time, the oil pan had to be replaced. None of these are covered for more than a year, or at most 2. If you get the extended warranty the engine will be covered for 500,000 miles and the transmission and rear ends for up to 750,000. Basically you are getting a drive train warranty and all the rest will be up to you.Last edited: Apr 19, 2014

I understand running a truck is expensive, after all I've been doing it for a while now. I'm just trying to point out that assuming that you avoid the high repair bills because you have a newer truck with warranty isn't necessarily going to be the case. Frankly if I didn't have truck payments these repairs would be nothing more than a bother financially.

A few weeks ago I was parked next to one of our lease operators getting unloaded and he said he almost had his truck paid off. It looked like it was still in fairly decent shape too.
One thing I can say about the lease program is that my old fleet manager, Dave R. is working with that now, and he is a GREAT guy. I miss working with him. -
Roehl had great trucks. I wouldn't mind one of there fleet columbia with a Detroit.

Take what I say with a grain of salt though. I'm just a company driver, so I don't have all that much knowledge on our lease program. -
i drove a 06 Columbia with 430k on it, woulda been a perfect truck. Never broke down
