Orientation in ellenwood ga monday morning

What am I to expect? Anyone out there who went to Ellenwood? I am fresh out of local school in NC, any more southern Roehl drivers out there?

 

Ok...have you ever heard of "hurry up and wait" that is what Monday was like. We did some paperwork and had physicals again to get a DOT MED CARD for Roehl. I passed so I am OK. NO sleep apnea for me. They served us lunch and gave us a $8.50 voucher for Piccadilly's Cafeteria. The food was fair. Today we went on to the backing range and did the 90, Roehl teaches it different than we learned in school, and to be honest the Roehl way is easier. I nailed it with no pull ups on my second try. We watched a lot of video's today, safety, safety, safety.....If a new person coming to Ellenwood is reading this, remember this.....The trainers here mean business and do not put up with tardiness or questioning the Roehl way of doing things, just listen to your directions and do them!!!....The motel is nice, indoor pool, hot tub and weight room. All stores you might need is walking distance. Looking forward to tomorrow, the weather is going to cooler.

 

Day 3 and 4 are in the books, backing, backing, and more backing every morning then after lunch we go out onto the road. The staff are looking for you to be able to shift the gears and drive with out being nervous. Make sure you know how to down shift and up shift. Take your time and remember to up shift at 1200 to 1300 rpm and down shift at 1000 rpm. Using your brake more than down shifting so much is ok. Over all the staff is real easy to get along with as long as you do not do anything stupid. Remember G.O.A.L........ Over all I am doing ok, the staff will ask you what school you are coming from and how many hours you received driving over the road, do not lie about it. It seems that the guys coming out of roadmaster have the least amount of driving time under their belts, those coming from tech schools and private schools seem to have a lot of driving time while in school. I had over 20 hours from Miller Motte College. MMC did a great job preparing me for a trucking job.
