Talked to several flatbed drivers at Gary and Roehl does fly them home and back to Gary from Florida after 21+ days. Started this year from what I can tell. Lot of Midwest freight and needed more drivers. Must have gotten a deal on the flights...

Wow. I stand corrected. So from what I see on here, guys are crying about low miles. But Roehl is paying to fly more drivers in from Florida? Something does not add up.

I'm currently in a CDL course down here in S. Florida and I called them today to verify just what their website claims about flying drivers back and forth from Florida to the their terminal for the 21 days on work duty then 7 days off. To me it sounds appealing since by now I too have realized that I would have to go to Tampa or Orlando at the very least to get better job options. The first 21 days are training for a new CDL driver, 7 days off, then start a 21 day work duty cycle, followed by 7 days home time and it's all flown back and forth to the terminal at the company expense. Interesting !

Did they happen to mention which of their terminal(s) they do this program for? I'm just wondering how easy (or difficult) the travel would be, with connections vs. nonstops, flight times, flight frequencies, and what airport(s) they would be using? In the case of the Gary IN terminal, that's a minimum of 30 miles from Chicago Midway, and around 47 miles (minimum) to Chicago O'Hare. I don't think there's anyplace closer to Gary with decent air service to FL than the Chicago-area airports.

From their Website: "When you join this fleet, you'll be flown to one of our terminals in the Midwest, where you'll drive for three weeks and then you'll be flown back for your week of home time. We will pay for your flights, baggage fees and transportation to and from the airport in the Midwest." - See more at: http://www.roehl.jobs/jobs/detail/2061#sthash.qsiQFNAM.dpuf

I would call for more specifics as to airports, travel arrangements, etc. 800-626-1265 Experienced drivers and 877-386-1070 student drivers.
Its says it's for the "Florida Van National Fleet" but then they fly you to the Midwest. Interesting !

I still recommend Conway Truckload for the Florida newbies.

I have never lost even a half day getting out of Florida with dry van with Large carriers. May be a problem for small carriers or O/Os. I have sat 2 consecutive days without a load pulling reefer with a 400 truck company with a strong presence in Florida.

Thanks for the suggestion xlsdraw... may I inquire why you recommend them since I'm not familiar with them and looking for options now for the near future?

I would iron all of that out. You could be very well be spending two of your seven days off in airports getting back and forth to work.

I and a lot of Florida drivers got our start with them. True 48 state and Canada carrier meaning nice average load length. Above average pay scale for new drivers especially for new Florida drivers.
