Roehl is looking like my #1 spot to start because they let you use GI Bill benefits to supplement your income and have a drop yard in the Twin Cities. If you work mainly from the St. Paul, MN drop yard how do you do for miles/income and do you do 7/4/7/3, 14/7, or some other arrangement?

Also, do you do reefer, van, or flatbed and how is your layover time? Trying to avoid getting something where you don't get miles b/c all of your time is spent waiting for loads.

Finally, any dedicated runs out of there? I know I wouldn't likely get one as a rookie but want to think ahead.

A recruiter mentioned mid to upper 30's as a reasonable 1st year estimate for income and that seems to mesh with the Roehl site on income/week when driving.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Silgan dedicated. I was on it, before I left. Dry van loads. But they go all over, just the same company. You can go to TX, NC, NJ, OH, IN, IA, MO, WI, and NY state. There are others, but mainly those. What's good is typically very little downtime, quite often you'll get loaded at the same place you unloaded.

I come out of that yard pulling a flat. Miles vary month to month. I have had 10k months and 5k months. I go out for 24 days-home for 5. There is always something coming out. To get home, get use to a town called Russeliville, KY. Roehl is known as a great company for new drivers. There is also many drivers that have been there many years. That should tell you something.

Thanks all. Figured I'd follow up. Looks like I'll be doing RDTC in early JAN 2015. Doing last minute searches on a few other companies (Magnum and one or two others). Considered Sue Vinje but don't want to start out in automatics. Due to personal items I'd have to do the OTR Flatbed or Van since my schedule's too varied for the Hometime fleets.

I did the military contract with them. I'd your in the guard I found it best to stay out 3 weeks and then be home a day or two before drill and then be back out 2-3 days after drill. Got me home on time that way.

Pool6710: I'm still in the Guard so I definitely appreciate the tip on 3 weeks. Have to find a way to keep the wife from being too mad about it hitting my TAH since I have another 5 years to go in the Guard for my 20 year retirement.

When you get past your 6 month mark there's lots of local gigs to look into. So just remind her it's not a permanent gig being gone.

Yep. I've already told the Mrs. a few options that are more local once I get some time on the road. I intend to do at least 1 year with them before thinking about local options and seeing how it goes. I know, famous last words from a lot of people. Glad that the Guard checks and VA OJT will be a cushion for my first year! It takes a while to become a 'supertrucker':biggrin_255:

I did 8 months with them and bought my own truck and leased to a local gig. But I had previous exp, just not good enough for roehl.
